My Review:

Such a beautiful, meaningful Christmas story! Loved the clever way the author used the popular Carol, ‘The Twelve Days of Christmas’ and Shakespeare’s ‘Twelfth Night’ as the framework for the story. Absolute brilliance.

I got a real sense of those old timey black and white movies starring Judy Garland and Mickey Rooney where they put on a benefit show – thinking ‘Babes in Arms‘ and I know there are some others. That paired with the classic ‘White Christmas’ starring Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye. Sundin has captured the spirit of these morale boosting movies. I feel like this novella highlights a kind of heartwarming simplicity during the most complex of times and that made it so impactful.

A compelling story with the kind of relatable characters on a redeeming arc that a reader can learn from. Lovely Christmas touches, inspiring message and the sweetest of romances.

I listened to the audible edition of ‘Twelve Days and Twelfth Night” expertly narrated by Leah Horowitz and enjoyed it so much! Her performance did justice to Sarah Sundin’s beautiful storytelling – an excellent partnership that produced a delightful listening experience.

My Review:

A heartwarming Christmas romance with such a sweet ‘Parent Trap’ spin. The girls are so dedicated to their plotting with some funny and amazing results! Never underestimate a determined ten-year-old, especially when there are two of them!

Loved the Second Chance trope and all the emotion that brings to the story. Theo and Regina have been artfully avoiding each other since she moved back to town until their daughters meet at school and become best friends and that’s when everything gets complicated!

Shiloh is an expert at pacing out a romance and I really enjoyed the way their relationship developed.It never felt rushed even though this is a novella. And kudos to the wonderful way the author wove meaningful faith elements throughout the story. So impactful!

An emotional love story enhanced by a festive backdrop and two charming young girls who believe in the magic of Christmas!

I listened to the audible edition and was really impressed by the performances of all four narrators! Their combined talent made for a highly entertaining listening experience.

My Review:

Comedic gold! The way Kinzer creates organized chaos that stems from muddled dialogue is priceless. I laughed all the way through this read…well, listen. And I’ll just mention here how brilliant CJ Bloom and Adam Verner’s performances are. Narrators extraordinaire, both! Highly recommend the audio edition if you enjoy listening to your stories as much as I do.

A definite must read for a discerning contemporary romance fan’s Christmas collection. Sadly, though a paperback edition is not available. Ebook and audiobook only. Hoping that might be reconsidered sometime in the future because I’d love to have a physical copy for my holiday keeper shelf!

A wonderful collection of classic Western tales with a festive twist.

Tracie Peterson’s story features a jilted bride and a marriage of convenience between old friends. Misty M. Beller explores one of my favourite wintery tropes – stranded in a snowstorm – as the backdrop for a Christmas anomaly, an inn that actually makes room for weary travellers. And Karen Witemeyer’s unique spin on the ‘wisemen’ is a lovely mix of humour and inspiration.

Three beloved authors share their distinctive storytelling styles in this heartwarming collection that celebrates the true meaning of Christmas.

My Review:

Two exceptional romantic suspense authors join forces to deliver edge-of-your-seat reads guaranteed to keep the pages turning. Both novellas feature a closed-circle mystery which makes the suspense all the more thrilling. No one can get in and no one can get out…and that means the killer walks among them! Spine-chilling delight!

Be prepared for eerie stalker vibes galore in Dani Pettrey’s ‘Buried in the Shadows’. Shiver — very appropriate title by the way. A second chance romance featuring an almost bride who left her groom at the altar! Gasp! But she had a very good reason. One year later and family/friend obligations have them reunited…and stalked by a killer in avalanche country. Pettrey takes the whole stranded in the wilderness and fighting the elements tropes to a whole other level in this taut, sometimes creepy suspense. Includes brief, chilling villain POV that slowly becomes more revealing until the breath-snatching climax.

In Lynette Eason’s ‘Snowbound Secrets’, teenaged friends meet years later under unlikely circumstances. Both Maya and Gideon are seeking respite at a remote ski resort when their best laid plans are upended by a catastrophic avalanche. This friends to more romance is fraught with tension and plenty of action. Someone has targeted Maya and as the attacks intensify, the two grow closer as they look for answers…and a way to escape! Lovely emotional depth and expert pacing made this novella a consume in one sitting kind of read.

I enjoyed listening to the audio edition of ‘Whiteout’ narrated by Natalia Payne who did a wonderful job delivering all that tension and emotion which made for a thrilling listening experience.

My Review:

A unique contemporary reimagining of Beauty and the Beast that’s saturated in emotion and faith.

There are some darker elements to this story which had me a bit wary at first. I was worried that Cole’s issues would be dealt with superficially (this is a novella, after all) and the seriousness of the situation warranted so much more. Almony proved my concerns were baseless though, and after finishing ‘At the Edge of a Dark Forest’, I wasn’t surprised to discover that she has a background in Christian counselling. What a powerful overcoming faith journey!

Loved the way the author wove classic fairy tale elements into this modern day retelling. Sometimes obvious, other times more subtle and genuinely unique to this particular story. This is my first Connie Almony reading experience but I’ll definitely be reading more of her books after finishing this compelling fairy tale retelling.

Sniffle. Who knew that spending Christmas in a picture perfect English village would take me on such an emotional journey? Sarah’s position in her family is so precarious and her yearning to be recognized and appreciated is heartbreaking. I kept willing her to…well, I can’t say without posting a spoiler…but I became so invested in her emotional angst! And Harrel knows how to mix edgy with humour and heartwarming so a reader never feels completely overwhelmed.

And, of course, our British hero, Michael adds an interesting twist to the possibility of romance because, hello, there’s an entire ocean between them most of the time! Love his gentle, steadfast spirit, even though my heart ached for him as well.

I appreciate the significant spiritual content woven throughout the story as Sarah struggles to find a place where she can be accepted in all her glorious imperfection. So touching and uplifting!

While part of Lindsay Harrel’s Port Willis world, ‘Like a Christmas Dream’ reads well as a standalone novella, though the author’s fans will recognize some familiar faces within the secondary character line up which adds to the overall appeal that much more.

Festive, fun and flirty! This was a surprise best read for me this season. I loved the idea of a letter writing romance since I’m a huge fan of epistolary novels and this one is brilliantly crafted. No worries if you’re not a fan of this particular literary form, the story isn’t all letter writing! But those letters play a huge part in bringing the hero and heroine together.

So we have Tess desperately trying to reinvent herself which means standing up to her parents and rebelling against their societal expectations. And Andrew is just a hardworking paramedic trying to get past an unexpected heartbreak. Their meet-cute is adorably awkward but Tess is hopeful that the connection she felt wasn’t one-sided. She isn’t wrong but that doesn’t mean Drew is going to anything about it!

Lots of great comedic pacing in this novella – especially when the Christmas pen pal letters start up. A perfect case of hidden…or would that be mistaken…identity? And then things get even more complicated when Tess and Drew keep meeting up, neither of them realizing they are also writing to each other incognito. A kind of wonderful mash up of ‘Daddy Long Legs’, ‘You’ve Got Mail’ with a bit of ‘Sleepless in Seattle’ thrown in…and a whole lot of fun!

My Review:

‘Deadly Christmas Trap‘ is Classic Eason. She manages to pack so much into this novella that it has the same kind of impact as one of her full-length novels. There’s depth in characterization and an intense plot that kept me engaged right through to the end and I consumed it all in one compulsive listen!

Cindy Kay is a veteran audio narrator and it shows in the way she delivers Cheyenne and Jack’s story with intensity and emotion. A thoroughly enjoyable and attention grabbing performance.

Lenora Worth’s ‘Dangerous Holiday Manhunt’ is an intense, gripping, edge-of-your-seater. I don’t think I breathed until the final takedown! Love how capable and dedicated and no-nonsense Lorelai is and her Australian Sheepdog K-9 partner certainly earned his stripes! Drake is just as dedicated since he has a personal vendetta with the villain and though he’s also capable, emotions tend to cloud his judgement. Love the way this hero and heroine wrangle their way through problems and set backs with grudging respect and a definite spark of romance.

I enjoyed listening to Callie Beaulieu’s narration. She’s become a familiar voice in my audio book ‘reading’ and always delivers a captivating listen.

It’s Christmas, and I should be full of cheer, but I’m having a hard time mustering the holiday spirit. That was always Grams’ role. Fun and flirty with enough toe-curling kisses to send me into a bibliophile swoon. In Noelle’s words, “Move over, elf on the shelf. The elf on the porch is in town.” (p 16) and really, how could she (we) resist the brawny handyman standing on her doorstep courtesy of her outrageous girlfriends. Of course, they didn’t know that the rent an elf they hired to work on Noelle’s dilapidated house was so….unelflike!

This novella is short and sweet (100 pages) but Scott makes every word count and delivers the kind of holiday escape read that’s guaranteed to keep you grinning (and swooning.) The banter is priceless, the teasing and flirtation so much fun! And the friend group chats, Noelle with her girl posse, and Liam’s brothers and guy friends were just as much fun!

The perfect cozy escape read for a snowy afternoon.
