Romancing Daphne

As her first London Season looms before her, the thought of the impending social whirl fills Daphne Lancaster’s timid heart with dread. She hasn’t her sisters beauty nor their talent for conversing easily. Even her family’s enviable connections may not be enough to prevent disaster.

But Daphne’s misery turns to surprised delight when the first event of her Season brings an unexpected visitor to her door—James Tilburn, whose tender kindness stole her heart in her youth. When the handsome young gentleman expresses his desire to court her, Daphne is elated. Their feelings for each other quickly grow, and it appears that, much to Daphne s disbelief, her happily ever after is within reach.

Yet nothing is as it seems. The couple finds themselves caught in a tangled web of greed and deceit, leaving James and Daphne to determine whether they are willing to risk everything for true love.

My Review:

This will go down ha an epic series in my ridiculously huge collection of Regency Romances. Eden has a talent for creating the kind of characters that are easy to relate to and cheer for and the Lancaster family are unforgettable. I particularly adore how much the ever brooding Duke of Kielder, our beloved Adam, appears in Daphne’s story. He’s forever hovering in the background and manipulating situations and it is hysterical! I practically squealed every time he showed up in a scene.

Don’t get me wrong, I love gentle Daphne and her tender romance with James. Their courtship is threatened by subterfuge and greed and watching these two work their way through it all kept me anxiously engaged on the outcome, even though I knew a happily ever after was a guarantee.

I read…listened…to this series all out of order and though ‘Romancing Daphne’ is the third book out of five, its my last visit with the Lancaster family…for now anyway. So, books can be read out of order though I’d recommend reading ‘Seeking Persephone’ first to get acquainted with the series….and Adam! 🙂

  1. I just purchased the movie based off of Seeking Persephone. It is phenomenal! The closest book-to-movie adaptation I’ve ever seen. I didn’t even realize when I read the book a couple years ago that there were more books about the Lancasters. I’m absolutely delighted that there are, and my goal is to own the entire 3 series in this Edenverse. Love your retro review.

    1. Ooohhh, I hear the movie is fantastic and it’s so close to the book because the author wrote the screenplay. I hear they will be making the next two books into movies as well which means Daphne will get her chance to shine again. Happy Reading, Karen.

  2. I adore Adam! His character is what makes the series rise above for me. Seeking Persephone is fabulous, both audio and movie!!! I didn’t enjoy Athena’s story but loved the Duke in it. Romancing Daphne…she is one of the most tender heroines and it’s an absolutely must-read love story!! Not just because of her and James’s relationship, but because of hers and Adam’s. His familial affection for Daphne shines!!

    I saw a short from the author on FB where she said the books are not easily available anymore, and she has been begging the publisher to release more copies, all to no avail, so if you own physical copies, Bravo! Hang on to them!

    1. I agree. Adam sightings are my favourite pastime when I read these books and the Jonquil brothers too. Ohhh, interesting about the publisher not releasing more copies of the books. I thought they just weren’t available in Canada. How strange that they wouldn’t want to cash in on the popularity since the release of the movie. They are in the business of selling books after all and she is one of their top authors. I have the series on audible – still easy enough to get copies of them as well as ebooks, I guess.   4. I saw a Facebook post by Sarah Eden recently that apologized if you’re having a hard time getting copies of her books. She said she calls the publisher at least weekly to see if they can print more, but she has no control over it. I think the popularity has exploded since Seeking Persephone was such a resounding success as a movie. I can’t imagine why the publisher wouldn’t want to step up the printing if there’s such a demand. I think there are a couple of books in the series that I haven’t read yet, but I’m hoping to borrow them from our online library if I can get my launch team ARCs under control! LOL I have cut down quite a bit on them, but I still have a lot of favorite authors that I can’t resist promoting.

    1. Thanks for the update, Winnie. Interesting and so confusing. Thankfully the audio books are still available. I have both the Lancaster and the Jonquil series on audible and Loooooooovvvveeee them! My library hasn’t got any of her books in which I think is strange. eeeeeeeeeepppppp — I double checked my library catalogue and they have the movie available for streaming!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Eeeeeeepppppp!!!!!! Guess what I’ll be doing later today.

      1. The president of the publishing company for Sarah Eden’s books just posted an apology for not anticipating the interest in Sarah’s books that the movie Seeking Persephone would spark. He said they are going to ramp up the print book publication of her books. I believe they are still widely available in e-book and audio. If anyone is interesting in seeing what he said, it’s on Facebook under Shadow Mountain Publishing. Hopefully, they’ll be easier to get soon for those who prefer print books.
