Hello August + Giveaway

It’s a Best Reads blog tradition! Celebrating the month’s new releases the first week of each month.

Because I recently discovered that a book’s success or failure is often determined by first month sales! (Though I bet preorders play into that as well.) Publishing houses look at those stats to determine whether they’ll add on to a series or accept the author’s next manuscript! All that literary goodness hanging in the balance but for a month’s worth of sales! (This was a cozy mystery author, but I imagine all traditional publishers use the same ‘system’.) So I thought I should do my wee little bit to promote Christian Fiction.

By hosting a special ‘Hello – insert month’ giveaway. It’s easy to play along. You just have to choose ONE of the August 2026 new releases on your TBR wishlist (must be Christian Fiction / Closed Door) and mention the title in a comment below (or email me at kavluvstoreadATyahooDOTca) If your name is drawn, that August release is the book you will win and we’re one book closer to keeping our fave authors in business.

  1. Good morning, Kav, and ‘Hello August’! How are we already here? So many good releases in Aug it’s so hard to decide. I’ll have to choose:

The Heiress and the Woodsman by Christine Hill Suntz (Aug 4) I enjoyed her 1st book, The Lawyer & the Laundress & this book takes place in your neck of the woods, Kav! Canada!

Just a FYI for ebook readers—‘Stronger Than the Storm‘ by Deena Adams which just released Apr 27, 2026 & has a rating of 4.9 stars out of 100 reviews on Amazon is on sale for only $0.99 for a limited time!! Great book for contemporary CF lovers!

Thanks, Kav! I hope you’re enjoying your new digs!!

    1. eeeeppp – I have this one on preorder on audible. The release date there is August 11. Strange, eh?

You’ve become my source for angsty emotional reads, Diane. 🙂 Stronger Than the Storm sounds like another one. Thanks for sharing the kindle sale. Good luck!

      1. You can’t beat a good women’s fiction novel for plenty of angst! After my lengthy battle with the shingles, other characters’ angst makes mine seem not quite so bad. lol That is strange about the release date for the audible of The Heiress & the Woodsman, but I’ve seen that happen several times with Kindle books, too. Either releasing earlier or later than the pprbk. Not exactly sure why, tho.

      1. Kav, are you on Goodreads? I’ve recently joined and am exploring different people’s pages and books they’ve read.

  2. Hello August, coming in hot!

I can’t wait to read Things We Cannot Keep by Amanda Cox, 8/18.

There doesn’t seem to be as many new releases this month. I guess publishers think readers are still on vacation but that’s a perfect time for a new book. October seems to still the big Fall release month.

Thanks for the giveaway, Kav! tracey14567 atgmail.com

    1. Yes, it seems like July was the big release month of the summer season and September has more than August. There must be all kinds of studies that determine optimum release months. I don’t pay attention to that because I read all day every day. Bwahahaha! Good luck, Tracey!

  4. If I were fortunate enough to be selected, I would LOVE the opportunity to read TWILIGHT TACTICS by Lynette Eason.  So many aspects of this book I really enjoy in a book.  First, I LOVE this author’s books.  Then there’s the military veteran (Army brat here) and romantic suspense, which all adds up to being on my TBR with a great desire to make it sooner than later. 😊

    Release Date – August 4, 2026

    1. This is a new one – new-to-me author too. Good luck, Patty! Do you work in a school? Ours don’t start up again until after Labor Day though I’ve noticed some back to school ads starting to make the rounds.

      1. Her first was titled An American Immigrant, and it’s been on my wishlist for a while!

I don’t work in the schools, or even have kids, but there have been all sorts of back to school giveaways (supplies, backpacks etc.) by local groups, including our church, so it’s hard to miss!

Growing up in Michigan we didn’t go back to school until after Labor Day!

  7. Hello August! I can’t believe we’re already in the last month of summer.🙁 It’s my favorite season, and it’s gone way too fast. As for new releases, I just found out that Susan May Warren has a new 4 book series! It’s called The Hunt for Alan Martin. It sounds awesome! South, Book 3, comes out August 7. That is the new release I would pick. In the meantime, I’m sprinting 🏃‍♀️ to read these first 3 books before my Kindle Unlimited subscription ends on August 14. I’m not a fast reader, so it’s a marathon! 👟

    1. Yay, I do love a good reading marathon! 🙂 I don’t know how anyone can keep up with Susan May Warren’s books. I like the globetrotting aspect of this new series and the clever way she gets the titles and the heroes’ names to match but I can’t figure out the series title at all – not from the book blurbs anyway. Good luck, Alison!

      1. Yeah, I didn’t catch anything in the book blurbs that gave a clue as to the series title either. Who is Alan Martin?? 😳

  8. Hello August!

I haven’t read any of Jody Hedlund’s contemporary romances, so I’d choose Horseshoes and Honeymoons by Jody Hedlund! It has quite a title! Thanks for the giveaway opportunity!

  12. Hello August! (Where did July go?) One book I’m excited about releasing this month is the paperback version of “The Christmas Book Flood” by Roseanna M. White. But if that doesn’t count, I’m also looking forward to “The Last Noel” by Sarah Hamaker, Jayna Breigh, Kimberley Woodhouse. 🙂

    1. The Christmas Book Flood totally counts. I have it on audible and it’s such a great Christmas read! I think I’ll have to get me a print copy for my Christmas shelf as well. 🙂 Good luck, Sabrina!

  13. Hello August….where summer on the Oregon coast finally shows up in all her splendor….lol! Had two really, really hot days with pleasant (70ish temps) days following. And the SUN is shining 🙂 We don’t get much of that most of the other seasons of the year so I’ll take what I can and bask in it! Oh yeah….and my birthday is Sunday so I guess that’s another thing to celebrate.

The book I’m really wanting to read that’s an August release:

A Mismatch Made in London by Melanie Dickerson (August 4th)

Thanks for the chance to win Kav 🙂

    1. Happy Early Birthday, Trixi! 70ish days sound divine. We’re back in 90’s plus heatwave and it looks like it’s going to keep on despite rain in the forecast. Hate that yucky muggy feeling when it’s crazy hot and it rains. Seems to make it feel worse. I shall sit in the shade on my balcony and read. 🙂 Good luck, Trixi!

  14. Hello HOT HOT HOT August! I would choose The Christmas Book Flood by Roseanna M. White if that fits since technically the paperback will finally have a delayed release. Let me know if that’s a problem.

I did pre-order things We Cannot Keep by Amanda Cox. It sounds like it gets the top requested slot.
