As a principal dancer with a prestigious New York ballet company, Devyn Lee is far from her hometown of Hope Harbor on the Oregon coast. But when a family emergency compels her to return, her visit turns into an extended stay after complications arise.
Widowed millworker Aaron Steele pays no attention to the buzz in Hope Harbor about the famous dancer in town. Until his grieving ten-year-old daughter takes a fancy to Devyn after she agrees to help with a fundraising show for a local charity in which the young girl is performing. As the show–and Devyn–begin to lift his daughter’s spirits, his own life is brightened by the beautiful ballerina as she slowly but surely captures his heart.
But what are the odds that such an accomplished, polished woman from the city could ever fall for a small-town lumberman with two left feet?
Bestselling and award-winning author Irene Hannon once again transports readers to the irresistible beauty and romance of the beloved coastal small town of Hope Harbor.
My Review:
No matter how hard I try, my visit to Hope Harbor never lasts long enough.I try to draw things out by savouring every scene and completely immersing myself in this fictional world but that just heightens my need to find out what happens next and before I know it I’m compulsively devouring the whole thing in one sitting. Satisfying and yet also unsatisfying because I’m left wanting more! So now I’m experiencing the ‘finished-my-book-too-fast-blues.’ Makes me feel quite Eeyorish.
But also Tiggerish as I giddily reflect on these characters and their stories and get to visit some of my favourite Hope Harbour haunts and soak up town sage Charley’s insightful perceptions. And then there’s me thrilling over cameos from fave characters from past books while relishing the beautiful brilliance of heartfelt storytelling paired with exquisite narration because, of course, I listened to the audible edition.
What an epic team Irene Hannon and Therese Plummer make. Plummer’s performance presents these characters at their very best which makes me love them all the more. I treasure each and every one of my Hope Harbor audiobooks and know I will revisit this town and these special friends over and over again.
So, you might have guessed that I am a tad enamoured with this whole series and this twelfth (!) book does justice to the eleven that came before. Hannon’s talent for building community, helping characters face hard truths and finding solace and support in unlikely places is highlighted in this book. We get multiple points of view, a secondary romance and a look at how restoration can lead to unexpected new beginnnings. So uplifting!
Oh – and in case you haven’t visited Hope Harbor yet (gasp!) Harbor Pointe (brilliant, brilliant title tie in. Eeeeeeppp! So clever) reads perfectly fine as a standalone. Mind you, once you set foot (or eyeballs?) in/on the town just one visit won’t be enough and you’ll find yourself backtracking to catch up. It’s that splendiferous of a series! 🙂

Thanks, Diane. It’s such a fantastic series — these characters! Happy sigh. How are you feeling? I’ve been thinking about you and praying your pain eases. Good luck!

Thanks so much, Kav! The good news is that I have only 4 more horse pills to take (antiviral meds)! lol Blisters have ruptured & I now have 2″ open red sores from middle front of body & around hip to my lower back which need to crust up & heal. More good news — can’t wear clothes so it’s actually kind of cool to have an excuse to do nothing & to be able to hang out in my nightie! Gotta look at the bright side sometimes. Sigh…

Ugh! That sounds so painful! At least it sounds like it’s progressing to the point of healing. Must be hard to find a position to rest in though. 😦 Continued prayers.

Harbor Pointe finally released and like you, I read it fast to get from page to page. I finished it yesterday. I think my age is showing because I enjoyed the secondary romance more than the one between Devyn and Aaron. One thing that made me scratch my head and laugh was Isabel settling into a booster seat. No self respecting 9 year old would be caught in a booster seat. I know Irene never had children, but still…
Another thing I noticed missing is the preview of a new fall suspense. There was a preview of the older series Guardians of Justice and the first book Fatal Judgement that’s being rereleased. Now I’m left wondering will there be a new suspense series this Oct as usual? No mention was made of it, only the next Hope Harbor book in April of 2027.

Tracey, this is what she said in her latest newsletter:
“Normally I’d be talking about my October suspense release in this newsletter, but this year is a bit different. Because of all the upheaval with our unexpected move last year, I had no time to write a new suspense novel. So my publisher is creating new covers for my Guardians of Justice series from 15 years ago and will be reissuing them this October. Life is at last beginning to return to normal for me, so I’m hoping to pick up the writing pace again very soon.”
I didn’t even know she moved, but prayerfully like she said, she’ll be plotting her next suspense soon!
Oh, and the title for the future Hope Harbor book is “Suncatcher Island” releasing April 2027. It will also have another secondary storyline featuring the Cuban refugee Luis Dominguez from “Sea Rose Lane (book #2)”. She said a number of readers have been wanting an update on him ☺️
So there’s “the rest of the story” for you (and other lovers of Hope Harbor)…lol!

Thanks Trixi, I knew she’d moved, she’s talked a lot about it on Facebook. I thought I got her newsletter, but not totally sure since I get so many. I need to check on that.

Ha, Trixi, I should have listened to you before I went on my internet hunt. And eeeepppp, I am so excited that Luis is going to get a story. I love him and he deserves his own happily every after. Now I have 12 months to jitterbug over that bit of news.

Eeeepppp! A fellow Harbor Pointer! 🙂 Did you clue into who that secondary couple was right away? I didn’t at first and then suddenly, I was, oh, wait it’s them!!!!! Shocker! 🙂
Re the booster seat — I wondered about that too but then I remembered they are used up until a certain height and weight so I thought Isabel might have been petite but now, after reading your comment, I googled it and apparently booster seats are indeed used for children up until about 8-9. Until the child is 4″ 9″, 80 lbs. I’m thinking there have been safety advancements re booster seats since we needed to worry about them. 🙂
I never get the previews on audible so didn’t notice the lack of but I had to do some sleuthing and I think you might be right. No new suspense in the fall but Revell is re-publishing her Guardians of Justice series, the first one coming out in November. They call it repackaging, but honestly, the covers oare blah.

Honestly, I didn’t pick up on it right away. There have been so many books since they first appeared but then later on, I got it. Sandpiper Cove was my first 5 star Hope Harbor book so I should have remembered them. I am getting persnickety about my 5 star ratings, only 5 of the 12 books have been 5 star for me. The other 7 have been 4-4.5.
Check out Trixi’s comment above to me and she explains the lack of Oct release this year.

I went and looked at the new Guardian covers, and they don’t do the stories justice! I have the old ones on my kindle and I prefer those covers. Sometimes when books are updated, they change on my kindle. That happened with Indigo Isle by TI Lowe. The new cover is fine, but I loved that solid dark blue cover from before, sigh…

Oh sorry to keep commenting but wanted to say here in Va. the limit to get out of booster seat is 40 lbs and 4 feet tall. Most 6 yr olds weigh 45 so usually by 6 yrs old booster seats are gone. A 9 yr old would have to be very tiny to still be in one, I guess that skewed my thinking and threw my off.

Oops, I’m wrong and you’re right 4’9″, my youngest grandson is now 18 so it’s been a while

I have the original Guardians of Justice series in paperback and much prefer those covers to the new ones — the new ones look more like they are AI generated — or stock photo cut and paste. lol

LOVE the cover! It makes me want to jump in and sit where she’s sitting taking no notice to time and enjoy the view, smell the flowers, feel a slight breeze on my face and just feel the peacefulness and to just soak in those last rays of sunshine. Ok over my cover love. 🙂 The more I read of your review the more goosebumps I got just anticipating reading HARBOR POINTE! Sounds like an amazing book, but I’d expect nothing less from this author or series. Can’t wait to sit down, with supplies at hand because I know I won’t be moving anytime soon, to devour this story.
Thank you so much for the amazing chance to win a copy!
May some sunshine warmth be with you today. We had our first two peonies bloom yesterday.

Isn’t that a serene cover? I’ve never lived by the sea so I don’t think about that setting much until I read a book like this. Harbor Pointe is worth all the anticipatory goosebumps! Good luck, Kay!

Awesome review! I can’t help but say that you can’t go wrong with Irene Hannon whether it’s the Hope Harbor series or her suspense. I DO hope that she has a suspense title coming our way in the Fall. Thank you, Kav!

You are so right! If Irene Hannon writes it, I will read it! Or listen to it! lol And, sadly, no new suspense story this year. So hard when our favourite authors have to do real-lifing instead of delivering fictional worlds to us. 🙂 Good luck, Perrianne!

Judging by your audio experience, I just might need to listen to it, too! Bummer on no new suspense! I get it though, we’ve been in our house for more than 30 years, so I can’t even imagine moving!

I long to visit Hope Harbor again! Like you, Kav, I devour these books way too fast even though try to savor them. It’s so hard when you love the fictional world she’s built and the characters feel like old friends!
I’m behind by two books (not including this one) and I’m determined to play catch-up by this summer, if not before ☺️❤

P.S. I agree with the cover love!!! Makes me want to jump in and walk around & explore my favorite place in the world!
