Reader’s Choice Giveaway – Spring 2026 Edition – Goal Reviews

Quarterly reading goal reviews have become a Best Reads Blog tradition and I can’t believe we’ve reached the end of the first quarter of 2026 already! Where does the time go, I wonder? Hours spent reading I’m guessing 🙂

I’ll share my progress (or not!) here just for some fun book nerdy stats and, if you’re so inclined, you can share a goal or two in the comments. But no pressure – a goal can be as simple as ‘read a book.’

So, to enter this giveaway, just share anything goal related in the comments. Then, in the same comment, list a book that will help you reach your goal. So it looks like this:

“I want to catch up on some suspense series. Night Prey by Susan Sleeman.”

NOTE: BOOKS MUST BE CHRISTIAN FICTION OR CLOSED DOOR

You can enter up to three times in three separate comments — and you can use the same goal or a different one each time, but a different title for each entry.

Books can be published any time up through to June 2026. Currently published books will be ordered this coming week for winners, otherwise it will be an IOU for a title releasing later.

I’m pretty jazzed about my 26 in 26 list. I’ve read 10 of the books this first quarter! Turns out that I can be motivated by setting specific goals! lol

  1. I love all your books stats, so fun to look back over the quarter and see where we are.

    I’ve read 74 books, breakdown Contemporary 34, Suspense 26 and Historical 14. Usually, the numbers for historical and suspense are reversed but that’s what happened when I got caught up in a few series.

    I try to read 10 new authors a quarter and I’ve read 15.

    My 26 in 26 was all the new releases I was planning for the year. Through March there were 11 released and I’ve read 9. I’m on the fence about the last 2 after reading about them.

    Goal 1- Keep up with series, Hope Habor, Habor Pointe by Irene Hannon

  3. Goal 3- keep up with favorite author and series, Scent of Hope by Susan May Warren.

    I just saw on Goodreads book 3 in this series is coming in November, Trail of the Brave. After discussing Warren’s prolific year the other day, here’s another one to add to the total. I count 9 from her and 5 more as collaborations for a whopping 14!

    1. Your stats are great, Tracey. I was surprised at the suspense # — yay for series that lure you in! 🙂 11 out of 9 new releases from your 26 in 26 list is all kinds of awesomesauce. I couldn’t believe how psyched I got crossing out titles on my list! Who knew little ol’ mood reading me could be so goal oriented? Bwahahaha!

      I don’t know how Susan May Warren does it, plus she’s managing the publishing side of Sunrise, isn’t she? And an editor? She’s probably accomplished a full days worth of work before I’ve finished my morning tea. lol

      1. I just got a newsletter update from Susan Warren today. Well, her daughter Sarah anyway, who is her virtual assistant. Suzie and her husband are in New Zealand right now. They do love to travel. And they go back and forth from Minnesota to Florida where they have a vacation home. They do a lot of their own home improvements too. Last newsletter she was laying bathroom tile! So, I agree, she probably does more before I start my day than I get done all day. Busy lady!

        Suzie and Lindsey Harrel do Sunrise together is my understanding, not sure how much editing she does besides her own. Although I’ve seen her thank people in her acknowledgements for their help. I’m sure there are others on the Sunrise team who do some of the work. They have grown from a smallish publisher to being pretty well known.

      2. Ooohhh, I’ve been binge watching Brokenwood which is a cozy mystery series from New Zealand and now I want to go there too. Maybe she’ll come back inspired to set a series in New Zealand. Eeeeppp!

      3. We love Brokenwood too! In fact most of our TV watching at night is from Acorn , Britbox or Masterpiece. Although right now we are going back a bit and watching Elementary with Johnny Lee Miller. A nice break from subtitles on foreign shows.

      4. And here’s me thinking, ” I really should do floors today.” but the mop and bucket are still in the cupboard and the vacuum has only gotten as far as the hall. I’m clearly not a Susan May Warren type. Bwahahaha!

  7. I’m always so impressed reading your stats, Kav! I’m a very slow reader as of late but I have savored & enjoyed almost everything I read! As I mentioned yesterday, I haven’t been feeling so well & had some tests done. So far the test results are showing a UTI. Hopefully other tests will be clear!

    My goals are typically—more diversity, new to me authors, indie books, keeping up with favorite authors, & reading out of my comfort zone. As far as diversity I’ve “been” to Italy, Scotland, England, and the Caribbean. Reading a hockey book was totally out of my comfort zone! Favorite authors I’ve read this year—Lori Benton, Laura Frantz, Michelle Griep, T.I. Lowe, MaryLu Tyndall & it’s only Mar! I’ve read quite a few indies & new to me authors.

    1. So sorry you are struggling with your health. Continuing to pray for you! Number of books read (or listened to) isn’t the end goal — it’s as you say, books “savored & enjoyed” that’s important. Glad you’ve had many of those. I wish I had a way to visually show my reading around the world. I’ve visited some great places in the course of my reading. I’ll have to see if I can figure out a way to track that in picture form. Ohhhh, I think I have an idea….

      You’ve read a lot of fave authors so far, Diane. Love the cozy comfort of embracing a book written by a favourite author! I’m pretty happy with my increase in indie authors this first quarter. I’ve been trying to be deliberate about reading indie books but I also get distracted by shiny new traditionally published books soooo…:-) Good luck, Diane!

      1. Aww, thanks for the prayers. I’m sure you find a way to show your visits around the world! After seeing your impressive pie charts & stats, I’m convinced you can do almost anything you put your mind to. 😂 I’ve been more deliberate about reading indies as well, but when I pass up a favorite author’s books I feel like a traitor. So I don’t if I can help it. lol

        BTW I read your reply on Tracey’s comment about the mop & vacuum & I have the solution. Wait until you hear company’s coming & you’ll have the house all cleaned in 30 mins. Amazing how that works! I’m sure you’ve heard about the lady who had a group of her friends just drop in on her & she quickly scooped all of her dirty dishes from the sink into the oven to hide them. When she answered the door they were all holding frozen pizzas. Oopsie!

    What an amazingly fun & eye opening week! My tbr was looking a bit sad. Thanks so much for doing this & for all you do to get the word out about good Christian fiction! I agree with Tracey. Bestreads really is the best & the camaraderie here is off the charts!

        1. I’ve been blowing my book count out of the water so far this year. My goal is typically 3 books a week (13 a month), and I’m sitting at an average of 19 a month so far this year. So now I’m thinking maybe I can manage a 4 book week for the year!

I was even thinking about giving myself a challenge like only reading indie books for a month, though that might be daunting.         32. Always enjoy the statistics and goals discussion as a wrap up to the week! No surprise your chart indicates cozy mystery and suspense as the most read. I read 25 books this past quarter, with a more balanced mix than typical. Have struck out more than usual recently on DNF – probably as I tried more types, time periods, and authors.

          1. I didn’t include my DNFs — I had 10 which is a lot for me. They were mostly audio books available free on audible plus and let’s just say, I can see why they were free. 🙂 Mind you, I found some real gems that way too so….
