Little Creek’s bookmobile is more of a death trap on wheels than a vehicle of literary delights, and circulation librarian Haley Holt is afraid it’s going to careen down a mountainside with her in it. Yet she sees it as a way to serve her community and be worthy of the liver transplant that saved her life as a child. However, her fears come true when the bookmobile breaks down and a rockslide traps her in the small hollow of Turkey Grove.
Reclusive mechanic Levi Redding lives in tiny Turkey Grove to get away from people. He can handle getting the bookmobile running again, but the endless chatter and unsettling touch from the vibrant librarian leaves him overstimulated. When forced proximity leads to a misunderstanding, a note of apology begins an epistolary friendship, proving that sometimes the happiest of endings aren’t contained within the bindings of a book.
Sarah Monzon pens a charming story for fans of books about books, the forced-proximity and grumpy-sunshine tropes, and pen-pal romances.
My Review:
Sigh. This book was so stupendiforously good that’s it’s impossible to write a coherent review. I’ve been trying for a week but every time I think of Levi, I spiral into a swoonalicious state of ‘best book boyfriend ever’ euphoria and all common sense is lost.
Let’s just say there’s something to be said for the strong, silent type. And…gasp…he’s a reader! So I can forgive him the awkward meet-cute and his tendency to converse in grunts. Such a contrast to Haley’s exuberant chattiness. She’s full of charm with a librarian’s font of eclectic knowledge and she isn’t afraid to wield words.
This opposites attracts, forced proximity rom/com is hilariously grin-inducing. He’s the troll to her sprite and the bookish puns and references are delightful. As is the camaraderie between Haley and her librarian friends who are only a group text away when things get dire or confusing …even intriguing. And Levi’s family! Well, best to meet them cold turkey. They’ll make more of an impact that way. Bwahahaha!
However, there is so much more to Levi and Haley’s story than rom/com perfection. Like the kind of emotional depth that steal’s a reader’s breath away. And phenomenal character growth! This is where I get all tongue-tied because I don’t know how to describe the kind of impact these characters had on me without giving specifics which would mean spoilers. What I need is to go all gushing fan girl with someone who has read this book!
Sigh…let’s just say I was completely invested in these characters and their story and I might have ugly cried at the end due to an overload of uncontrollable emotions. Which means, this was definitely the perfect read for me!
I listened to the audio edition of ‘Hearts in Circulation‘ (very clever title!) narrated by Allyson Morgan who did a truly amazing job of bringing these characters to life. I especially love the way she portrayed Haley — definitely captured her vibrancy and zest for life. I would definitely recommend the audio book to discerning listeners everywhere!
My thanks to RB Media and Net Galley for providing me with an audio copy of this book.

A little birdie told me yesterday this belongs on my TBR, so please toss my name in the hat!! Sounds awesome & what a cute cover! The book I just finished last night had a book lovin’ hero as well who wants to open a bookshop on Jonathan Island. What swoony heroes these days!

Gently tossed into the toque (it’s winter now so I’ve switched up my straw hat for a nice cozy toque.) I’m surprised we don’t have more book lovin’ heroes in our fiction. Maybe authors thinks it’s too much of a cliche but, oh my, a man who reads is at the top of my swoonworthy list! Good luck, Diane!

Totally agree! BTW I had to Google toque, but assumed what it was. We call them beanies or toboggans here. Which is also a name for a type of sled, too. When my grandson was small he couldn’t say toboggan so he’d ask me to get his “woggin” so he could play outside. 😄

lol – what did we do before google? And Toboggans are sleds up here – the kind you can fit more than one person on. Love the ‘woggin’ modification. Bwahahaha!

Whatever works, haha! Cute lil fella. 😍 Only when you Google something, be sure to spell it right. Torque with an “r” is all about cars & I knew you didn’t wear car parts on your head. LOL!

I can’t wait for this book tomorrow. Love the cover!
I love a guy that reads too. One of my favorites is Adam Bradford aka Nathaniel Quinn from Lake Season, The Bluebell Inn series by Denise Hunter. He was a novelist and a reader, perfect combo. Now I’m trying to think of other reading male characters?!

Ohhhh, book reading heroes — we need a conversation about that! Titus in Jane by the Book by Pepper Basham is an author and a reader. And Brodie in Authentically Izzie…in fact a lot of Pepper Basham authors appreciate a good book. 🙂 And yes, The Bluebell Inn series is scrumptious. I can’t wait for you to read this book either, Tracey. Eeeepppppp!

I really enjoy Sarah Monzon’s books. Her characters are not “run of the mill” and though there is humor that sometimes is zany, there is also a depth and lessons to be learned.

I love books with librarians but having a bookmobile on the cover is especially exciting. I drove our bookmobile for a short time in my early years at the library! Great cover and great review!
