Reader’s Choice Week Giveaway – Autumn 2025 Edition – Goal Review

Quarterly reading goal reviews have become a Best Reads Blog tradition and I can’t believe we’ve reached the last quarter already! Where does the time go, I wonder? Hours spent reading I’m guessing. 🙂

I’ll share my progress (or not!) here just for some fun, book nerdy stats and, if you’re so inclined, you can share a goal or two in the comments. But no pressure – a goal can be as simple as ‘read a book.’

So, to enter this giveaway, just share anything goal related in the comments. Then, in the same comment, list a book that will help you reach your goal. So it looks like this:

“I want to catch up on some suspense series. Night Prey by Susan Sleeman.”

NOTE: BOOKS MUST BE CHRISTIAN FICTION

You can enter up to three times in three separate comments — and you can use the same goal or a different one each time, but a different title for each entry.

Books can be published any time up through to December 2025. Currently published books will be ordered this coming week for winners, otherwise it will be an IOU for a title releasing later.

WINNER’S CHOICE OF PAPERBACK OR EBOOK FOR US AND CANADIAN ENTRIES. EBOOKS ONLY FOR INTERNATIONAL READERS WHO HAVE A US KINDLE ACCOUNT.

See? Easy Peasy. But if you’re still not clear, don’t be shy about asking questions.

Here we go! Time to face up to what’s been working and what hasn’t when it comes to my goals this year.

Overall, I’ve done fairly well on my goals so far…with a few exceptions. I did manage to increase the number of indie books by a wee bit this past quarter, still aiming for more though.

And my Read to Zero Authors! Oy! I read one Hannah Linder, have Garden of the Midnights on hold at my library so that just leaves two books left (counting her new release in November.) Surely I can manage that by the end of the year! I got sidetracked with Irene Hannon when I decided to reread the whole Hope Harbor series which means I’ve only read two of her Encore edition books so far. Think I still have twelve books to go! I’ve almost given up on Sarah M Eden. Too many books to read before the end of the year. I think she’s going to become a five year plan! I did read The Best-Kept Secret (Huntresses #3) so at least I’m working on it! And I went and added two more authors to the list – Annah Conwell (7 books left) and Gracie Ruth Mitchell (11 books left) because…well…just because! 🙂

Alas, my attempt to focus on completing series has been surpassed by my compulsion to start new series so….that’s a goal well and truly failed. 😦

Okay, that’s enough nerdy stats stuff. Let’s get on with the giveaway!

Share below and remember to include a book title that will help you achieve any kind of reading goal. You can enter three times in three separate comments using the same goal or different ones. What ever strikes your fancy. Just make sure each entry is for a different title.

DRAW WILL BE HELD ON

AND WINNER ANNOUNCED ON

Sunday September 28 2025

(You can enter any of the giveaways up until noon EST on Saturday September 27. Winners will be announced on Sunday September 28 which is a bit of a switch from previous RCWs. It’s just to give me a little more time to do all the tallying and setting up the blog post.).

  1. My goals have changed a little bit in the latter part of the year since I finally got a “real” Kindle (not the Kindle Ap). I’ve been able to use Net Galley more easily and get some early reading done a lot faster than I expected.  So that’s a win!  However my  paperback reading has suffered and I’ve had to return some library books before I could read them because they were overdue.  They’ll always be there at the library but I’ve never had to do this!  It looks like new releases slow down after October, so, my goal is to read more paperbacks.

    1. I can relate to this. I read way more e-books and audiobooks than paperbacks. I buy far more of them as well. So I have 30+ paperbacks and a few hard covers that are just sitting. I like the comfort and convenience of digital and audio.

      1. I guess this is my new normal but I still have lots of books. Too many books? Nah, never! There’s just something comforting about a real copy of a book

  2. Continuing my trend of reading more historical fiction, my Second Choice:

  3. A Christmas book sounds like fun, so my 3rd Choice:

The Christmas Book Flood by Roseanna M. White 10/7 (Noted that Amazon has Kindle or audio only. That surprises me, audio is usually last).

    1. I’m forever renewing library books or returning them after putting holds on them because I ran out of time. Mind you, I usually have about 40 books borrowed at a time! Sigh, I just can’t help myself. 🙂 I’ve noticed the same thing about The Christmas Book Flood — looks like it will only be released in audio and ebook? Unusual since it’s Tyndale but…Good luck, Perrianne!

      1. Oh, so I’m new to the game of Library Roulette or Library Jenga (the stacking game) as I like to call it. With my new Net Galley skills, that may be my new normal. I was also puzzled that Tyndale isn’t doing a paper copy for Roseanna’s book. It’s all right with me though, because a review on My Reader Rewards gets me more points for free Tyndale books!

    1. Sometimes we “know” an author, but their books seem to elude us.  I’d like to read a book by one such author.

  5. I love all the “nerdy stats” as you call them. I keep some records but not as in depth as you.

My genre breakdown is- Contemporary 105/43%, Historical 84/34%, Suspense 57/23%

Goal 1-My Goodreads book goal was 200, because of my text to speech option I hit that last month and now I’m at 246. Here’s another nerdy stat, for the fun of it I used to try and keep up with 1/2 your book count, but I’ve increased that to 65%. Done!

Goal 2-read at least 3 new to me authors a month, I’ve read 38 so I’ve passed my yrearly goal. Done!

Goal 3-Keep up with favorite authors new releases each year.

    1) If I counted right this is Tessa Afshar’s 14th fiction book, The Royal Artisan. This keeps me current on all her books and also my read to zero list.

    1. Tracey, that’s an awesome number of books read!! I will never keep up with 1/2 of your reading stats or Kav’s either! That’s a pipe dream for sure! It is fun to think about tho! 😃

      1. For years I used to dream of even half of Kav’s number. I always read in the 100-125 range, then gradually up to 150. It’s only been in the last 3 years I’ve slowly doubled my book count. I owe it all to my kindle reading my books to me and the fact that amazon upgraded the voice, big difference. The kindle doesn’t get distracted and wonder off in its thoughts like I do, lol. Also, you sit with your husband and watch baseball which is great thing to do together. My hubs watches the business channel and the news all the time, so we each have our own tv or reading space. Works fine after51 years 🙂

      2. Tracey, I also use the voice text to speech, but I have to use it so close by bc my Kindle isn’t very loud. Which means carrying kindle with me doing my various household chores which works sometimes & sometimes not. I do enjoy the voice feature when I’m doing makeup & flatironing hair.

Those baseball games are on 6 days a week for 2-1/2 to 3 hrs! 😮 And that’s just his favorite team we watch. We’ve been married 52 yrs & I thought it might be something new we could do together to keep the spark alive! 😂 However, I agree that moving to another room to read while hubby is watching news or business stuff is the way to go!!

    2. Bwahahaha! You go, girl. Reading races! I don’t know why, but I’m surprised your Contemporary is more than your Historical. Congrats on exceeding your Good Reads goal, by the way. You are just power housing through your goals this year! Woohoo — this is me cheering your keeping current with Tessa Afshar. Such a satisfying thing to know you’re up to date with a favourite author! Good luck, Tracey!

      1. Well, I’m reading so much with KU right now, my contemporary/historical ratio could easily level off by the end of the year, it just depends on what I’m reading at the time. I’ll see how that works out, but I think they normally run neck and neck.

        Liked by 1 person

  6. 2) My second book is Sarah Monzon’s A Heart in Circulation. Such a cute title and cover! I’ve read all her books. I think this is #19. So, another favorite author and read to zero goal for the year.

  7. 3) My third book is Jan Karon’s My Beloved. This checks the favorite author box. I have 2 more in the series, #13 and 14 to be caught up. I own both of them but for some reason got sidetracked. I think I didn’t want the series to end and subconsciously by having them it wasn’t over, lol. Must get caught up so I can be ready for Christmas book #15.

Thanks for all you do during Reader’s Choice Week and all year long! Best Reads is my favorite blog for book talk! We appreciate you so very much!!!

    1. Ah, thanks, Tracey! So happy you enjoy it here. I’m with you on A Heart in Circulation – definitely a must read. I don’t think I’ve read absolutely everything by Sarah Monzon yet, but I’m close. Yikes, guess she better become a read to zero author next year! Good luck, Tracey!

  8. My internet has been out since I got up this morning. Ugh Yay, I can finally see you! I’m always gobsmacked when I read your fabulous goals! Amazing! I don’t keep track of how many but I try to stick to my goals of more diversity and new to me authors. So far I’ve been to England, South America, Canada, Africa, Scotland, and Italy! And I haven’t had to buy plane ticket the 1st. Not bad, huh? lol My 1st choice for new to me author:

    1) A Weekend on Allyson Island by Susannah B Lewis

  9. I set a goal to read 100 books this year. For me that’s good bc I have to take a lot of breaks from Kindle screen for health reasons plus I’ve been taking a lot of time away from my reading by sharing hubby’s love of baseball. So I not only want to keep up with this series, but it’ll help me make my goal bc I’m 19 books away from 100!

    3) Prowl by Colleen Coble (Nov 4)

Thank you for doing this, Kav! I know it’s a lot of work for you. It’s such a delightful week to learn about new books and our bookish friends preferences! Just “plain out fun” as we say in the South!

    1. P.S. The cool part is that baseball will be over after the World Series! I can read all winter long by the fireplace during the cold, frosty weather with a cup of hot chocolate in hand. I don’t usually look forward to winter, but this year for some reason I am!

      1. I’ve been keeping track of my armchair travels too….I’m such a book nerd that I actually created a reading atlas — cut up pictures and maps of countries and continents from an atlas and glued them into my reading atlas (a big ol’ scrapbook) and I add in book titles in the appropriate sections…I know…waaaayyyy to nerdy but…there it is. I’ve confessed. I’ll share my year long travels in my last goal wrap up at the end of the year.

I can’t believe I’m going to say this but…spending time with your husband is more important than reading (gasp!) Bonding Over Baseball would make a great contemporary rom/com title! 🙂 Good luck, Diane!

      2. I don’t think it’s nerdy at all! A very creative & resourceful way to spend your time! Besides reading, that is. I’ll bet you were the coolest mom on the block when your daughter was little! I worked with my son’s kindergarten teacher & we made the neatest stuff. Her creativity, tho, not mine.

I can’t believe you said that either! Well, you typed it. Methinks if you were to say it out loud, we’d need the smelling salts. Bwahahaha Actually I think it’s his turn to compromise after baseball’s over. How does Bonding Over Books sound? Sounds like music to my ears but I doubt it would his. 🙉

      3. 😄 It would have to be a grumpy to sunshine series. Because right now they’re not doing too well. I’m the sunshine, of course—he’s the grumpy! 😡 Unless they win the playoffs, then 🌞!

    2. Well I found a nifty mistake I made when I just visited Goodreads. I’m only 9 books away from my goal of 100 books read, not 19. So I should exceed my reading goal by the end of Dec!! Cool beans!!

  10. Since I don’t make reading goals……I mean it’s kinda like New Year’s resolutions, they go by the wayside within a month or to (why I don’t make those either, lol)….and I get distracted by new books coming out (and who doesn’t really?), the only thing I can come up with is “keeping up with one favorite author”. I have chosen Jaime Jo Wright…I have three paperbacks on my shelf currently (not yet read), and I have three I need to add to my pile. So that being said, my choices are all her books, one is coming soon 😊

    1. Specters in the Glass House by Jaime Jo Wright

  11. And last but not least:

    3. The Bell Tolls at Traeger Hall by Jaime Jo Wright

P.S. My permanent lifetime goal is to read the paperbacks currently languishing on my bookshelves 😅 Not sure if that will happen in this lifetime….I sure hope there’s a heavenly library, lol!

    1. Actually, Trixi, I’m certain Heaven is a gigantic library! 🙂 Yay for a Jaime Jo Wright read to zero goal! I just have to read the Tempest one and the one releasing in October and I’ll be up to date with her books! Good luck, Trixi!

  12. You do such a great job with tracking! I love seeing this, and how you’re making intentional progress. My goals are more informal, and I really don’t keep track, other than logging them in my reading journal and on goodreads. I have 3 goals right now: 1) Start reading Christmas books earlier. I’m a mood reader, so this can be difficult for me to start before (American) Thanksgiving. I think I’ll start earlier in November though. One book I’ve been looking at is The Christmas Book Flood by Roseanna M. White.

Thanks for the opportunity to win!

  13. Goal 2: Finish the 3 reading challenges I’m participating in this year–I have never done more than 2/year! One book that I need to complete that is The Curious Inheritance of Blakely House by Joanna Davidson Politano.

  14. Goal 3: Read more books by indie authors. I try to be really intentional about the indie books I choose–I want them to be good, so it encourages me to continue reading them! I’d like to read A Fifth of the Story by Dr. Katherine Hutchinson-Hayes. I saw an endorsement from DiAnn Mills, so it definitely intrigues me!

    1. Informal goals are just as grand, especially for a mood reader. Our Thanksgiving in Canada is the second weekend in October so we get a jump on Christmas reading if Thanksgiving is your starting point. 🙂 I think I might just have to read The Christmas Book Flood over my Thanksgiving weekend!

I love yearly reading challenges. I’m doing pretty well on mine so far but one of the prompts was read a book with the word ‘with’ in the title and I swear, I haven’t read a single on this year yet! Grrrrrr.

Ohh, and your last choice is also a debut novel! Good luck, Karen!

  15. I can’t say that I’m great at making reading goals, I usually have plans, but they’re subject to change depending on what I feel like reading 🙂 However, right now I can think of wanting to read more new to me authors, and continue book series.

  17. I don’t even remember the reading goals I set this year.😅😅 life has been lifing so much lately I haven’t read a book in months! Definitely not something I want to have happen again. So to Jumpstart my reading again, I’m going to catch up with a favorite author. I’m only one book behind on Karen Barnett’s books.. so my first choice is Through Water and Stone.

  18. Always fun to see your charts/statistics and read comments from other readers! I read 28 books this past quarter and there were a couple of other ones I didn’t finish. Most of my books came from the library, but I did purchase a few Kindle books on sale. Many years ago, I used to read Tom Clancy and Vince Flynn. I have a goal of branching out and trying something different like that again. So, The Third Target by Joel Rosenburg would fit.

    1. Yay for all that libraries offer us! I don’t know what I would do with my library to supplement my reading life! Just checked out a bunch of Christmas ornament/decoration/baking books with the hopes of creating a homemade Christmas vibe this year. I love RCW too — so exciting to fangirl over upcoming releases with people who get it. Good luck, CC!

  21. Goal #3 Catch up on scanning my Love Inspired books into my goodreads shelf. I literally stopped scanning them in this year and I feel like my numbers are way off. I think I likely have 600 plus, but it is showing 500 plus books. lol! I need to eventually scan ALL of my books, so that way when I am thrifting I can avoid duplicates better.

    1. I’m at 98% with Net Galley but that’s because I only do the audio books and there aren’t a ton of them…at least CF and cozies I would read. I imagine it would be a whole other story if I read ebooks too. But I always thought the book tours used Net Galley for their books? And being part of the tour was a guarantee that you’d get a copy?

When you say scan books into Good Reads, do you mean using the ISBN? I had no idea that was possible. I use GR to keep tack of my cozy mystery reading so when I’m at a book sale or the library I can check to see if I’ve read a book or not. Definitely a plus for you with all those Love Inspired titles! Impossible to keep track of otherwise. Good luck, Jo Ruth!

      1. Goodreads has a feature where they can scan the cover and search the book and you can add it to a shelf. So I had a shelf of all my love inspired books that way. But this whole year I have just been shelving and forgetting to scan them. So I am SO behind, I don’t know what I scanned and what I didn’t.

I got behind on netgalley because originally I was getting a lot of rejections. Then I started applying for physical book tours instead and then around that time some of the netgalley ones started getting approved. I started prioritizing the physical books over the earcs and fell behind. So I stopped requesting until I can get caught up. But occasionally a tour gives me a physical and an netgalley.copy, so that adds to the percentage decline temporarily, until I read it.

  22. My goodreads goal for the year was 175 books. I just finished book #170! Way ahead of last year when I was trying to play catch up.
My goal on NetGalley was to break 90%. I am currently at 93%.
I always want to keep current with favorite authors but have slipped some. Just not enough hours in the day!
The goal I want to focus on is grabbing the books that got away or completing favorite author’s backlists.
