Conversations with Kav – Exposing My TBR

Just a fun little book tag wherein I reveal some hidden truths about my TBR pile(s)

How do you come across books to add to your TBR?

Well, I’m always happy to take suggestions from bookish friends. 🙂 And our Reader’s Choice Week keep my wishlist well-stocked. I’m always finding Instagram a great resource since I get to see what other people are reading and all the announcements for new releases. Plus Closed Door Romance is brimming with new-to-me authors to try out.

Social Media shout out to book tuber, bookstagrammer, blogger etc who adds the most to your TBR.

Narelle Atkins’ YouTube channel. Should have mentioned her in the first question. She reviews one book a week and I find her reviews really helpful and insightful. https://www.youtube.com/@NarelleAtkinsAuthor

Narelle also has a blog where she reviews books and does a weekly ‘Preorder Roundup’ which is a great way to get a look at upcoming releases. https://www.narelleatkins.com/blog/

Book that has been on your TBR the longest.

Code Name Edelweiss by Stephanie Landsem. I don’t know why I’m always passing it by for something else. The Hollywood setting might have something to do with it, even though it’s historical. I’m determined to read it before the year is out!

Most recently added book?

All’s Fair in Love and Blackmail by Gracie Ruth Mitchell. She’s on my read-to-zero list so I best get to it!

Which book will you read next?

Ummm….I just started a book and I usually don’t plan ahead. I just pick whatever I’m in the mood for. I have a feeling it will be Canyon of Deceit by DiAnn Mills. I have it on preorder and it comes out on Tuesday.

Most anticipated book and why you haven’t read it yet?

This seems like a trick question because, logically, the most anticipated book should also be the one I’d read next but….The Best Kept Secrets by Sarah M. Eden. It’s obviously been on my TBR longer than Canyon of Deceit but I’m in a suspense-y mood sooooo…..

Book that you added to your TBR because of the hype?

The Queen’s Cook by Tessa Afshar. I’m scared – it’s biblical fiction!

Book that you added even though you knew you weren’t going to read it?

Ha! Probably The Queen’s Cook!

Any books that you will be removing from your TBR without reading?

You Were Made For This World : Celebrated Indigenous Voices Speak to Young People. It’s a lovely book – the illustrations are stunning and I’ve read some of the stories/poems but not all of them. It’s more of a coffee table book that I’d pick up and read a story or two from time to time. I borrowed it from the library and there are lots of holds on it so I’m going to return it, though I’ve added it to my ‘for later shelf’ and will definitely check it out again.

How many books are on your TBR?

Oy – counting them up makes me anxious but here we go:

Chirp audio books – 6

Audible audio books – 4

Library books – Christian Fiction – 13

Library books – Cozy Mysteries – 13

Print books I purchased – 5

So, how about you? Feel like exposing some of your TBR secrets with all your book besties? Inquiring minds want to know how many books are on your TBR. I’m kinda hyperventilating at my 41. When you add them all up it makes it seem so daunting!

  1. Books that get added to my TBR list come from several sources.  Some those sources are author’s I love having a new book come out, one a friend has read and telling me how fabulous it was, a new book in a series I’ve very much enjoyed reading and from a certain blogger who’s opinion means a lot to readers like me.

How big is my TBR – BIG and every growing.  I always joke that I could never buy another book and I think I’d be able to read a book a week having enough to read the rest of my life.  Well, maybe not that big, but it’s BIG!  My TBR pile is all paperbacks.  Maybe that’s one reason it appears so BIG. 😊 I refuse to count them because if I knew how many, I might refuse to add to it.  LOL

Most anticipated book to read – DEADLY TRADE by Sara Driscoll.  Love this author’s book and this series.  Fortunate to get an ARC.  It will be the next upcoming book after the one I start today.

Book just finished reading – DOUBLE PROTECTION DUTY by Sharon Dunn.  Five-Star K-9 story!  Book I’ll be reading next – MURDER AT CAPE COSTUMERS by Maddie Day because I’m in the mood for a cozy and love this author’s books.  Want a more lighthearted book to read before I hit another adrenaline pumping story.

    Thank you for the chance!

    1. Friend recommendations are the bestest. 🙂

Wise woman, not to count the books on your TBR! There’s always the danger you might start reading and then you’d be lost for good! Love that you get an early look from a fave author…and you’ve just reminded me that I didn’t count Net Galley books in my TBR tally. I have four of them waiting for me and one of them is Double Protection Duty! I’ve just started the Cozy Capers Book Club Mystery series by Maddie Day. I’m waiting for the third book to come in at the library. We are on the same reading wavelength, Kay! Happy Reading!

  2. What a great discussion question! My #1 way of finding books is by tracking my favorite authors. I’ve already started my 2026 list (couldn’t help myself when they started showing up). I have 18 books on it for Jan-May. Other ways are amazon’s top 100 CF books, social media and I also do a drive-by of upcoming releases on Baker Books.

Longest: One of the books I’ve had the longest was Lynn Austin’s God and Kings. My daughter read it and said it was fantastic. I have it on my kindle but there it sits. I buy a lot of ebooks when they are free or a great price. Even bought the 5 book set when it was only 3.99 and still…there they sit.

Recent: I bought Steinbeck by SMW, so good, what a grand finale!

Next up: The Aviator’s Daughter by Gabrielle Meyer (comes out tomorrow)

Most Anticipated: The Atlas of Untold Stories was high on my list, and then suddenly my mood changed and I’ve gone another direction. May still read it, just not right now.

Hype: I don’t really read based on hype but when I say Becky St Amant’s book, Where I Found You for ebook free I got it. Btw-The Queen’s Cook is fantastic, I highly recommend. I can’t wait until Nov. for book 2.

Added book you weren’t going to read: Deborah Raney’s book Remember to Forget has the prettiest new cover and when I saw it was free I hit the buy button. Then I went back and read the summary, boyfriend tyranny and carjacking so I’m doubtful if I’ll ever read it, but maybe.

Books removed: now don’t faint Kav, but every year I look back through my ebooks and decide if there are any I probably won’t read (especially those I’ve had a long time) and delete them. I’ve had a kindle 15 years so not only did my giddy early buying go wild, but my tastes have changed too. Which leads up to your next question of how many books on your TBR, It’s different with ebooks, than paperback or library books. Hitting a buy button and having a book instantly on my kindle as my own library is too easy. I don’t buy books anymore that don’t fit my current taste, but I do enjoy reading new-to-me authors. so here goes-

Unread books on my kindle: like I said don’t faint! 350 (I have 1428 so that’s 75% read)

    Paperbacks: around 2 dozen

A few years ago, I did feel overwhelmed by my crazy tbr list, so I decided to change strategies. Now I read as many of the current year’s releases as I want and then use my tbr list to fill in the holes. II don’t feel any pressure with them sitting there, they don’t take up any room and are very patient, haha. t’s been working great.

If there’s one thing I love next to reading books it’s talking about books. Best Reads is my favorite place to do that, so thanks for the bookish talks Kav and best-readers!

    1. You are more organized than I am, Tracey. I’ve haphazardly jotted down 2026 titles I come across here and there but, sadly, it’s always on random scraps of paper that usually end up in the recycling bin. I haven’t had much success with lists on Amazon – I feel like it strays out of the perimeters I set way too quickly. Likely a marketing AI tool, but not helpful when you’re trying to restrict your search in any way.

I haven’t heard of Gods and Kings – checked it out on GR and it was published in 1995. Wow, that’s thirty years ago. I had not idea Lynn Austin has been writing that long! Funny how some books just seem destined to be neglected no matter how good our intentions. 🙂

Enjoy Steinbeck! I’m sure you’re going to thrill at the series conclusions. I’ve only read the first book so I have a ways to go still. Everybody has been buzzing about The Aviator’s Daughter and I haven’t read any of Gabrielle Meyer’s Indies yet! Yikes!

Reading moods definitely mess with my idea of an anticipated book…sometimes it changes within hours! See, you were the one to put me on The Queen’s Cook so I should trust you, right? But still I dither.

Ohhh, a cover that didn’t match a book cover! Such a let down – still, your mantra is ‘never say never,’ right? So….

THUD! Too late for the second warning, I fainted anyway.350 unread Kindle books?! I’d be a ball of anxiety if I had that many unread books on my TBR! I totally get how that comes about with a Kindle though. One of the reasons I’m not too stressed about not being able to read ebooks. I would definitely go crazy what with so many free books offered up and the cheaper costs. I’d probably have 1350 books if I were you! I have no self-restraint when it comes to books! Smart to do a annual weeding. Is there a way to organize your books on a kindle so it’s easy to access them? Or are they all clumped together? In audible you can create collections which I need to explore. I’m glad your kindle books aren’t putting the pressure on you! My print books give me the evil eye every time I walk by my TBR pile. I feel so judged! Bwahahaha!

Thanks for sharing in the conversation, Tracey! Happy Reading!

  3. Good morning all! Ok, Kav, I have the answer for you as to why you haven’t read Code Name Edelweiss. It’s a spy book! I told you last week about those spy heroines. hahahaha

I find a lot of my TBRs on NetGalley, Lou’s blog is great, your blog (especially during RCW!) & Avid Readers of Christian fiction group on FB.

Book that has been on my TBR the longest is probably The Best Summer of Our Lives by Rachel Hauck. I started reading it & it didn’t grab me right away, so I’ll have to be in the right frame of mind I guess.

One of my recently added books is Whispers at Painswick Court & is probably the book I’m most looking forward to bc . . . Julie Klassen!!

Book I will read next is Women of Oak Ridge by Michelle Shocklee bc I won it on RCW & it comes out Tues!!! Eep! Another most anticipated read! I may read a shorter book between now & Tues. IDK what yet.

A book I had on my TBR & took off is The Queen’s Cook. Not trying to be a copycat, but I actually purchased this one & after a few paragraphs got a refund. Just wasn’t my flavor.

Book I’ll probably remove from my TBR is The Bitter End Birding Society by Amanda Cox bc I haven’t been able to get into her books. We all have our favorites & I know many love her books.

Not sure how many are on my TBR yet. I have some saved in my email, some on goodreads, and will have more after I see what everybody’s reading on Sunday Funday on Avid Readers of Christian fiction! Fun post, Kav!

    1. I just looked on Goodreads & my most recently added book was a retro-read called After the Rains by Deborah Raney. Excellent book, but I wouldn’t recommend it to you bc of the dreaded love triangle. Yikes!

      1. Snicker. Yes, Hollywood and spies but, old time-y spies are more doable than modern day spies, I think.

I never think of browsing Net Galley for titles! I just checking available audio books periodically through the week, and I forget that searching ebooks by publisher or subject would be a great way to find new titles. Thanks for the reminder!

The Best Summer of Our Lives was a good read, but not a favourite. I can see how you’d need to be in the right mood to read it. Too much teenage angst for me to feel totally comfortable in the read and one of the main characters was…difficult to warm up to (for me, anyway.) We can’t fall in love with absolutely every book, I guess…though it’s fun to try!

Eeeppp!!! A new Julie Klassen book I didn’t know about and it has a haunted manor house and lots of mystery. Eeeeeeeppp!!!!

Phew! Thanks for the reminder. I don’t understand why Amazon doesn’t allow preorders for gifted ebooks. So strange. But now I have no excuse if I fail to order Women of Oak Ridge on Tuesday! 🙂

Ooohhhhhh….interesting about The Queen’s Cook. Tracey loves it and you didn’t. Where will I fall reading mood scale? Time will tell….maybe. I haven’t read Amanda Cox’s latest, but I have read some I really loved and two, that I can think of, that I just couldn’t get into. They aren’t a hard no, but I’ll definitely have to be in the right frame of mind to read them. Me and my mood reading again!

Thanks for playing the game, Diane. Happy Reading!

      2. You’re welcome for the double reminders! 😃 It’s fun to try to love every author, but there’s so many other good choices that make it easy to pass on those you don’t.

Yes, a double EEP!! And Julie’s book is not only a Regency, but a Gothic-y one!!! More along the lines of what she used to write I’m thinking. Hoping!

It’s possible I didn’t give The Queen’s Cook enough time, but I only like those difficult to pronounce Biblical names in well . . . my Bible! I hope you’ll enjoy it when/if you’re in the mood!

You’re welcome, Kav! I enjoy book talk any time!

  4. Book that has been on your TBR the longest. To Speak His Name by Tara Johnson

Most recently added book? A Very English Christmas by Gray, Johnson, & Turansky – I saw the cover, and on my list it went! 🙂

Which book will you read next? Heart on the Line by Karen Witemeyer – I’m working my way through her Ladies of Harper’s Station series.

Most anticipated book and why you haven’t read it yet? I have at least 3 most anticipated reads that I keep going back and forth on, but right now it’s probably Of Silver and Secrets by Michelle Griep. I honestly I have no good reason for not reading it, other than I haven’t bought it, yet… 🙂

Book that you added to your TBR because of the hype? The Collector of Burned Books by Roseanna M. White – I was a little hesitant about this one, but I’ve seen so many positive reviews that I added it.

How many books are on your TBR? Enough to wish I was a faster reader! I always seem to grow it faster than I can read it down.

    1. Oh, I remember hearing about To Speak His name — caught my attention beause of the Irish heroine — but I haven’t sought out a copy yet. Nice reminder. Thanks, Sabrina!

A Very English Christmas sounds so good! I love novellas at Christmastime, especially historical ones! I loved Heart on the Line – and any Karen Witemeyer book! I think I’ve read them all except for the Texan Christmas one that came out last year or the year before? Must try to get to it this year.

Of Silver and Secrets is the perfect book to anticipate! Love Michelle Griep’s storytelling and this series is fantastic!

I really want to read The Keeper of Burned Books as well. Can’t keep up with Roseann M. White releases these days!

Yes, our wiley TBR piles do seem to grow faster than we can read them down, don’t they? I’m sure it has nothing to do with our compulsion to acquire more books…frequently! Bwahahaha! Happy Reading, Sabrina!

  5. Book blogs like yours, and reading, is my superpower a great sources of upcoming books and recommendations. I also follow many authors via their newsletter and social media. The Avid Readers of Christian Fiction is also a great resource!

when I discovered the feature on Goodreads where you can scan the barcodes of books on yourself and add them to a list. I scanned over 300 books on my current bookshelves. If I buy a new book I try to add it there so I won’t double buy. I was at a used bookstore yesterday, and that feature definitely helped me out.

I have about 10 books in a box that are my Up Next TBR stack. I also have three or four audiobooks in my audiobook libraries on various apps, and.

Code Name Edelweiss is very good!

    1. Reading is My Superpower is an awesome resource for books! I haven’t been on many author newsletter lists in the past but recently I’ve started signing up for them, especially new authors, so I can keep current with their releases (Hopefully.)

WAIT! WHAT?! You can scan book barcodes on Good Reads???? I must check that out! Thanks for the tip, Patty!

I love your manageable TBR! That seems totally doable. I might be a wee bit envious. And I know that Code Name Edelweiss is going to be good. I do enjoy the author’s writing but for some reason….it languishes on my TBR! Shame on ome. Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Patty. Happy Reading!

  6. I have 34 books on my Goodreads TBR, but most of them aren’t published yet, or I’m waiting in line at the library (miss a Julie Klassen book being uploaded to the library’s online catalogue, and you’ll be dozens behind in line before the library actually receives their copies). This last week I scrounged through Goodreads looking for books I haven’t read recently and came up with four I’m potentially in the mood for, so they’re in transit at the library, along with two recent releases from my TBR that have finally made it through processing (somehow a large order of books always coincides with the new releases making through processing). Now deciding which to read is the question! I hadn’t planned on six books coming in at once. I often default to new, since there will be other people waiting in line, and I can’t abide a person who holds the books until the very last day (or returns it late, especially when there’s a line!).

Book I finally removed from my TBR, knowing I will never read it: Jane Eyre. It was on there a long, long time.

    1. I check my library’s ‘new titles’ and ‘on order’ lists weekly just to make sure I’m not late to the party with popular authors! Amazing how quickly a book can tally up holds the second it appears in the catalogue. And my holds always seem to come in at the same time and they all have multiple holds so I have three weeks to read thirteen books or risk having to take the book back to the library and getting on the hold list again. Oh the perils of being a library patron! Ohhhhhh, we need to have a discussion how how we choose to which book to read next!

Jane Eyre is one of my favourite classics, but I’ve only actually read the book once way back in my teens. I’ve watched multiple dramatizations of it, though. I love the Gothic elements. But I haven’t read all of Jane Austen’s books and I likely never will. I know just enough to get the Austen references in my rom/coms! 🙂 Happy Reading Rachael!

  8. TBR LISTS:

I am going simply by books that “I want to read” (Christian fiction only). I have no plan or specific list beyond that. I’m such a mood reader. So I will answer as best I can.

How do you come across books to add to your TBR?
    ⁃ this blog
⁃ Avid Readers of Christian Fiction group on Facebook
⁃ Suggestions made by authors about books they’re reading
⁃ Upcoming books by authors I’ve already read

Social Media shout out to book tuber, bookstagrammer, blogger etc who adds the most to your TBR?
⁃ Your blog, Kav. I don’t really follow anyone else. I’m going to check out Narelle’s though.
⁃ Avid Readers of Christian Fiction on Facebook

Book that has been on your TBR the longest?
⁃ Kindle: I do not have a clue in regard to my Kindle e-books. I have many that are unread.
⁃ Audio: I keep up with these quite well but there is one I haven’t read yet. The Record Keeper by Charles Martin (bk 3 of a series). They feel long and a little repetitive.

    Most recently added book?
⁃ Even if I Perish by Terrie Todd. It comes out in October but I am on the launch team again. I had planned to read this since the first one but it just became available on Goodreads to add (that I know of). I’ll be receiving the ARC from Terrie this week. Canadian historical fiction author.
⁃ Other than that, I just pre-ordered Joanne Bischof-DeWitt’s audiobook for The Heart of Bennet Hollow, narrated by the amazing Caroline Hewitt.

Which book will you read next?
⁃ Either one of my few remaining reading challenge books or Beyond Tuesday Morning (bk 2 of 9/11) by Karen Kingsbury. I recently read book 1 for a prompt about a “historical event that I remember.” On September 9, I will start the audiobook, The Women of Oak Ridge by Michelle Shocklee.

Most anticipated book and why you haven’t read it yet?
⁃ Love in the Castle Library by Ann Swindell, Echoes of a Silent Song by Amanda Wen, and The Women of Oak Ridge by Michelle Shocklee. The first two are being released in October. The third releases in 2 days. I have the ARC but I want to listen to the audiobook that I pre-ordered. Caroline Hewitt is such a great narrator!
⁃ In regard to a book that has already been released, I would say, The Divine Proverb of Streusel by Sara Brunsvold, and He Should Have Told the Bees by Amanda Cox. Both will be used for specific reading challenge prompts.

Book that you added to your TBR because of the hype?
⁃ My current read, Of Love and Treason by Jamie Ogle. It is so far out of my wheelhouse but I got a phenomenal deal on Chirp.

Book that you added even though you knew you weren’t going to read it?
⁃ When I first got a Kindle many years ago, I went a little nuts on freebies and .99 deals. I have since discovered that some of the authors are not good writers. Sorry, but I am being honest.

Any books that you will be removing from your TBR without reading?
⁃ Those I mentioned in the above answer. I already got rid of some and will be getting rid of more.

How many books are on your TBR?
⁃ Kindle: over 900 blushes — and some will likely never be read in my lifetime and some will be removed permanently.
⁃ Physical copies: probably close to 40
    ⁃ Audible: 1
    ⁃ Chirp: 2
    ⁃ Kobo: about 15
⁃ Net Galley ARCs: 2 (upcoming releases)

    1. You listing this blog as a shores makes me full of bookish glee. 🙂

Do check out Narelle’s blog and her YouTube channel. She has a knack for reviewing and making every book sound impossible to resist!

I find keeping up with audio books much easier than my print pile. I think because I can listen while I’m doing other things so I get through the books faster. It takes me 2 – 3 days to read a standard sized book but only a day or so to listen it it.

I really need to get caught up with Terrie Todd’s books. I read the first ones as they came out and loved them and then I guess she went indie? Anyway, I didn’t catch any publicity about her other books and now I see she has written quite a few that I’ve missed. Thanks for the reminder!!

Eeeeppp!!! You’re giving me a sneak peek into what’s in store next Reader’s Choice Week — The Heart of Bennet Hollow sounds fantastic – Appalachian Pride and Prejudice and the cover is gorgeous! Very Autumnal. That might have to me my seasonal read for October. Thanks for sharing that.

Like your reading lineup – I haven’t read any Karen Kingsbury in ages. And, eeeeppp, you hurling me into bookish heart attacks with all these new releases on the horizon…Love in the Castle Library is coming out soon. Eeeeeeppp!

Of Love and Treason was way out of my comfort zone too. I didn’t know what to expect but wow, it was so good. Not a time period I would naturally gravitate towards but I really enjoyed the read.

I guess that’s the perils of collecting freebies and .99 cent deals — mind you, at least you aren’t out a ton of money if you end up with an author you don’t like. I’m always so cautious because I’m either buying the paperback or the audio book and I don’t want to waste my book money! I get a bit more adventurous when it comes to Chirp deals though.

Whoa — you beat Tracey on your Kindle TBR!!!! That many unread books would make me antsy! lol Otherwise your TBR seems to be quite respectable. Just the right amount of books to make mood reading choices. 🙂 Thanks for sharing in the fun today, Tammy. Happy Reading!

  9. I have no idea how many books are on my TBR since not only do I have paper books but also ebooks in Bookfunnel and Kindle. It would take too much time to count.

I read and enjoyed Code Name Edelweiss so give it a go. Biblical fiction isn’t really my favorite but I make an exception for Tessa Afshar.

I learn about new books from this blog, Carrie’s Reading is my Superpower, and various groups on Facebook, plus from the authors themselves, either through their newsletter or Facebook. My book club members also share recommendations.

    1. Hmmm…me thinks the fact that it would take way too much time to count means you have A LOT of books on your TBR! 🙂

Thanks for the reading nudge for both Code Name Edelweiss and The Queen’s Cook…I really can’t ignore you all anymore, can I?

Love all your book sources but it suddenly occurs to me that no one has mentioned browsing through a bookstore. It’s been years since the Christian bookstore in my city closed but I used to love going there and browsing the shelves, looking at all the pretty covers and reading the first page in a few books before deciding which one to buy. Sigh. Happy memories. Happy Reading, Pam!

  10. How do you come across books to add to your TBR? Visiting other blogs, like yours!, Booktubers, Instagram, publisher’s emails. How many books are on your TBR? I have spent quite a bit of time deleting stuff that I know for sure I won’t be reading, including 80ish books just this past week, so here we go. Kindle NF own: 20. Kindle own to read 393 (used to be over 600 before I started deleting, I am sure more need to go). Physical NF own to read: 27. Physical Fiction books to read: 183. On my Goodreads want to read list: 719. I am constantly reading from my physical books and Goodreads TBR, but I also keep adding!

    1. Bwahahahaha! Your Good Reads want to read list! Bwahahaha! You’re my kind of bibliophile, Cindy! Whoa – your Kindle count…seems like everyone who reads ebooks has a huge number, I guess because the prices are so good. I tend to go a bit crazy with Chirp deals, so I get it. But your physical fiction books to read…..I find that oddly comforting. I think I measure security in books. lol Happy Reading, Cindy!

      1. Kav, I will never run out of good books to read, LOL! The reason I have so many physical books is because we used to go to this used bookstore called McKays and they would have books on sell some times for under a $1, or one I just read was $1.08, so I would come home with 30-40 books each time we went, because for those prices, how could you not?! Thankfully the bookstore was in a different state or my counts might be higher, LOL! And, the last time we went things were closer to $8ish or more for the books I wanted, so I didn’t get anything.

  11. Kav, great discussion topic. I was hoping to be able to answer several of the questions but am needing to hurry now. I find a lot to add to my TBR list from authors I follow and from Goodreads. Your RCW week clues me in too to a lot of books on the horizon. My TBR list is ridiculously long but my TBR stack is actually not too bad right now. I recently gave some books away that I finally decided I was just not going to get to. I probably should have given away a few more 🙂

  13. Wanted to add that I keep a notebook of new releases that I want by month for the year. But WordPress wouldn’t let me add to my last post. So here’s my email too. paulamarys49ATgmailDOTcom

    1. I really have to catch up on that Gabrielle Meyer series. I’ve only read the first book! Yikes! 4641 books on Good Reads?! I pared mine way down earlier this year after I got excellent tips from you all during a Conversations with Kav discussion. It took ages and I’m afraid I might have deleted some books that I’ve already read but…it’s more manageable now and close to accurate when it comes to what I’ve read and what I want to read. Though I haven’t added many want to reads recently so that part is out of date. Whoa — your Kindle numbers are super scary! Seems like everyone goes overboard on Kindle and for good reason. I think I would have an anxiety attack if I had that many books waiting to be read! 🙂 And your physical shelf is a bit intimidating as well! How do you sleep at night, Paula? Bwahahahaha! Thanks for sharing your stats. Happy Reading!

      1. Ah, sorry to hear that, Paula. Are you able to listen to audio books? That’s how I get through pain-filled nights. A great distraction until I’m finally able to sleep.

  14. Well, Kav, I don’t want you to faint dead away by telling you how many books are on my TBR list. I can definitely meet or beat Paula’s and Caryl’s lists. I can relate to Caryl’s comment about her own TBR planet. My TBR list has its own zip code. Between Kindle books (mostly free ones) I haven’t read, print books I haven’t read yet, NetGalley ARCs, and launch team ARCS, I’d probably have to live to be at least 800 years old to read them all. I’d be okay if all my favorite authors would quit writing new books! They’re writing faster than I can read!

I have no idea which one’s been on my TBR the longest. I’ll probably be reading A Seaview Christmas by Julie Klassen next.

    1. You’re so kind to consider my welfare, Winnie. Clearly I should have cleared off my fainting couch before reading everybody’s TBR numbers! Phew! Bwahahaha – zip code! Hmmm….reading away 800 years sounds quite enticing. Of course, since new books would continue to be released that would add to your TBR so you’d have to add on another 800 years and…well, into infinity, I suppose. Happy Reading, Winnie!

  15. Hi Kav, Thanks for mentioning my blog and YouTube channel. I love talking about books and inspiring readers to discover new books and authors.

My ebook TBR list has been out of control for more  than a decade. I have perfected the art of hoarding ebooks that I might have time to read one day… The large majority are impulse buys I’ve picked up for free or 99c. I do have more self control with print books and I only buy what I’m planning to read sooner rather than later.

I loved Code Name Edelweiss. I hope you’ll dive in and read it soon! 😊

    1. You’re welcome, Narelle. You are an ace book talker! Ohh, another Code Name Edelweiss fan. I guess I really should make it my next read instead of my sometime-maybe read! And yikes, I think I’m almost relieved that I can’t read ebooks or I’d be in the same boat as the rest of you with so many unread books. That would drive me crazy! Happy Reading, Narelle!

  16. I also have an ungodly number of books on my TBR list on Goodreads because any time I enter a giveaway, that title is automatically added to my Want to Read list. I need to do what you did, Kav, and start deleting some of the older books!

I get suggestions from social media, email newsletters, book bloggers, and even some authors who reach out because I’ve been on their launch teams.

    1. Clearing up my Good Reads shelves was very cathartic but now I’m afraid to add to them so I’m not up to date with my want to reads. lol Fun that you get invited to be on launch teams. Definitely a great way to keep current with an author’s releases. Happy Reading, Connie!

  17. Way too many books on my list and not enough time or money to feed my habit. I just keep plugging along. Blessings leliamae54(at)aol(dot)com

  18. Great discussion question. I’m amazed at how many books are on everyone’s TBR list. It made me stop and really think about this.

Your first question is about where I find books. I check out the library’s new releases; the Fantastic Fiction website tells of new releases for the month for different genres, including inspirational. NetGalley, Instagram, BookBrowse, and your blog, Kav.

A few years back I did many author interviews; one of the questions I asked was, “Which book impacted you the most?” (besides the Bible) Hands down, everyone (except one or two) said To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. I know the book deals with racism, and they’ve made a movie from the book, but I can’t bring myself to read the book and/or watch the movie. So, it sits on my TBR list.

I just finished The Stories We Carry by Robin W. Pearson. Loved this story that takes place in a bookstore and has a few surprising plot twists. Loved it.

What I’m reading next Mistletoe and Mayhem by Janice Thompson

Most Anticipated: The Island Bookshop. I’ve read many books by Roseanna White, all historical. I was curious to read a book in this genre by her. Haven’t had time to read it.

Can’t say that I’ve only removed a book from my TBR when I’ve finished reading it.

I’ve got 10 books on hold at the library

    10 books on NetGalley

    10 books on Kindle Unlimited

I can’t bring myself to look at the books I have on my Kindle Fire.

Thanks again for a great discussion. Loved it!

    1. Wow, I didn’t know that Fantastic Fiction list new releases by genre every month! I’ve only used it to check out an author’s backlist. Clearly I need to explore that website more. Thanks for the tip, Nora!

I read To Kill a Mockingbird in high school and watched the movie then too and several other times over the years, but not recently. And I’ve only ever read the book once. Not sure how I’d find the read now. Might have to check that out sometime.

I just saw an instagram post about Robin Pearon’s new book. I really love the way she puts a story together.Glad to hear you loved The Stories We Carry. Bookstore settings are one of my favourites.

The cover on Mistletoe and Mayhem is awesome! So nostalgic. Definitely beginning to feel like some Christmas-y reads now that the days are getting cooler. You will love The Island Bookshop – you can’t go wrong with a bookshop setting, especially when it’s written by Roseanna M. White!

Your TBR looks quite manageable and I’m glad you didn’t mention what’s on your Kindle. Some things are best left to the imagination. Bwahahaha! Happy Reading, Nora!

  19. As far as new books, most of mine come from recommended by someone on IG or they are from authors that I already love. As far as old books, those come from library sales!

My most anticipated right now is The Heart of Bennet Hollow by Joann Bischof Dewitt!

Btw… The Queen’s Cook was amazing! I think you’ll enjoy it!

    1. I do love a good library sale! You can find real gems there. I often find hard cover brand new editions of some of my favourite cozy mystery books! The Heart of Bennet Hollow does look like a book worthy of all the bookish anticipation! Yikes, another vote for The Queen’s Cook. Guess I better push her up to the front of the TBR line! Happy Reading, Jolene!
