July New Releases + Giveaway

Not only is it time to say ‘Hello July’ , it’s Canada’s birthday too! Woohoo! So, HAPPY CANADA DAY! Now onto the business of the day. 🙂

It’s a new Best Reads blog tradition! Celebrating the month’s new releases the first week of each month.

Because I recently discovered that a book’s success or failure is often determined by first month sales! (Though I bet preorders play into that as well.) Publishing houses look at those stats to determine whether they’ll add on to a series or accept the author’s next manuscript! All that literary goodness hanging in the balance but for a month’s worth of sales! (This was a cozy mystery author, but I imagine all traditional publishers use the same ‘system’.) So, I thought I should do my wee little bit to promote Christian Fiction.

By hosting a special “Hello — insert month” giveaway. It’s easy to play along. You just have to choose one of the July 2025 new releases on your TBR wishlist (must be Christian Fiction) and mention the title in a comment below (or email me at kavluvstoread AT yahoo DOT ca.) If your name is drawn, that July release is the book you will win and we’re one book count closer to keeping our fave authors in business.

  1. HAPPY CANADA DAY! How do you celebrate this holiday? Hope your day is full of fun, smiles and a good book as you celebrate. ❤

If I were fortunate enough to be selected, I would LOVE the opportunity to read LOST TRUTH by Susan Sleeman. Love this author’s books, but it’s been way too long since I’ve had the privilege of reading one.

Thank you for the chance to win a copy!

    1. Ugh, it’s hot and humid with thunderstorms most of the day but clearing tonight though it will still be muggy. The fireworks will be able to go on though. There’s a city wide celebration which usually features an air show but that’s unlikely today because of the storms but there’s lots of entertainment celebrating the diverse cultures that make up our country – dancing, music, some big Canadian music artists. And all the museums and art galleries are free. Lots of food vendors too and street performers. A real carnival feel. Too hot for me to go downtown though. If it cools enough I might wander down to the river to catch the fireworks later tonight.

I need to catch up on Susan Sleeman…again. I’ve missed the start of this lost series. Good luck, Kay!

      1. Sounds like a lot of fun . . . a little something for everyone! Pretty much like our 4th of July celebrations. Sorry about your stinky weather, though. It’s supposed to rain here today as well. Enjoy the fireworks! 🎉🎉

      1. Good reason to stay in and read! I can’t wait to check out that unique long haul driver occupation, you don’t hear about many females in this profession. From everything I’ve read it’s a great suspense.

  2. Happy Canada Day, Kav! 🇨🇦 And hello July. I just went outside to throw a small bag of trash in can since today is pick-up day & it’s already hot out. And we still have Aug & Sept to go. 😩 Hope it’s cooled off for your Canada Day celebrations!! 🇨🇦

    1. It’s stifling here too, though the nasty temps and humidity should break tomorrow night . Easier to handle a short heatwave than a long one! And look at those itty bitty Canada flags! They make me smile. 🙂 Good luck, Diane!

    1. I know, where did June go? And all the other months in 2025, for that matter? I guess I read my way through them. Good luck, Alison. I’m thrilled that they didn’t stop the Freddie and Grace Mystery series at just three books. Hope it goes on for a long time, like a lot of cozy mystery do.

  6. Hello July and Happy Canada Day! Your description of typical activities sounds similar to our July 4 celebrations. Weather this time of year, even for your location it seems, unfortunately isn’t the most conducive to long periods outdoors. Hope you can enjoy some of the festivities. Briefly hit 100 degrees yesterday on my back yard thermometer.

    1. Yuck to 100 degrees. I always think about our pioneer ancestors and how on earth the women survived summer with all their layers and cooking over a fire etc. Shudder, clearly I am not good pioneer stock. lol Good luck, CC!

  11. Happy Canada Day Kav!  I Hope the heat lets up soon.  We are actually having some rain and unusually cooler temps.  Anything under 100 is fantastic!  I would choose A fierce Devotion by Laura Frantz.  I don’t think I can go wrong there.
