  1. Good morning, Kav! It’s supposed to be 99° today so am watering grass & flowers early. We haven’t even hit July yet! 😩

    1) Who Is My Neighbor? by Creston Mapes (Aug 1)

Mapes is really a great new to me author. I don’t like all of his plots (just as with most suspense titles/authors), but the ones I have read I’ve really enjoyed!!

      1. We’re going up to 82 with a bit of a humidex but nothing like it’s been the last few days. And it’s going down to 60 overnight which will be wonderful for sleeping and then cooler over the next few days. Phew! I went for a walk early this morning and the poor gardens in my area look shellshocked. Petals bleached of colour or fried completely. All the peonies which are just coming into bloom in my area are all blackened and shrivelled. Like someone took a torch to them. It’s like an alien landscape out there. How do you Southern Gardners nurse your plant babies through the heat?

Who is My Neighbor? sounds super stalkerish — why am I not surprised that one intrigues you? 🙂 Good luck, Diane!

      2. What are you trying to say, Kav? Just bc I’m getting ready to read Echoes of Darkness today. hahaha I no longer do J.P. stalker books, however, unless they’re more tame.

So sad about y’alls flower gardens! 😢 My neighbors mostly have shrubs & depend on the rain to keep grass moderately green. Or drought resistant flowers. We have built-in overhead sprinklers hooked up to a well my hubby had dug yrs ago. What a great investment bc who can afford a $400-$500 per mth electric bill?! We share our well water with our neighbors so we both have pretty flowers & green grass. So glad to hear your temps are cooling down!

  2. Will this heat ever stop! We hit 100 degrees yesterday with a heat index ox 113! Crazy number for June, I never left the house! I thank God every day for air conditioning. Per your question Kav, that’s how we “Southern Bells” get through these hot hazy days, we stay in with the fan going, haha.

Fire Mountain by Dana Mentink 7/1

I think this is Dana’s first book with publisher Revell.

    1. You guys are spending my July book budget already! Just added this as my third audible preorder this morning! I must be in a suspense mood or something but they all sound so good! I’m intrigued by the heroine’s unusual occupation — a long haul trucker?! I didn’t realize this is a Revell book — I thought it was a Love Inspired Trade. Cool beans.

Our temps have dropped drastically. Still warmer than I like but nothing like it has been. That was just gruesome! I’m actually going to go out and do a wee stint in the garden once I catch up here. Good luck, Tracey!

  3. Things We Keep Hidden by Jill Lynn 8/26

Jill’s second full length mystery set in Colorado. If you check the summary, it clearly has a mystery to solve and yet the amazon tag doesn’t list it that way.

Which brings me to an interesting FB CF group discussion I was reading recently about how authors/publishers put in for the tags they want on their books, but amazon decides what category they want to put it in. So, no longer is checking the tag for genres a surefire way to identify categories. Just passing that along since that’s the situation with Jill’s book.

    1. It even sounds a bit thrillerish, doesn’t it? And interesting insight into how the tags end up on Amazon. You would think the authors/publishers should have the last say on how a book is categorized! I wonder if it’s an AI thing? Like AI is looking for key words and phrases to define a genre? Pretty lame, if you ask me. Good luck, Tracey!

      1. I can only imagine what this puts an author through who is looking for readers in a certain genre and can’t get the tag. I never thought about it being an AI thing but you may be right about that. It is invading all parts of our lives.

  4. Thanks Kav for another wonderful week. Enjoy your weather if it is lower. Here it has been in the 90’s. today it is raining but still supposed to go up into the 90’s, which will mean it will extremely humid. I will be staying in and sewing and reading. (smiley face)

    1. It’s such a relief, this morning. I’ll be switching into gardening mode soon. I’m intrigued by the number of well known authors writing for Guideposts now. I would never have paired Johnnie Alexander with one of their cozy mysteries! Good luck, Lori!

  5. Buried Wilderness Secrets by Jaime Jo Wright (July 29, Love Inspired). I love her dual timelines, so I can only imagine a romantic suspense will be great as well!

    1. Ohhhh, a Jaime Jo Wright Love Inspired?! How cool is that? In a creepy sort of way because…serial killer! Bwahahaha. Like the different kind of cover art too. Good luck, Rachael!

    1. Yeah, humidity is plain wretched. 🙂 So, you found two new ones for me to add to my wishlist. Perilous Tides and Girl Lost. Love Elizabeth Goddard!!! She should be one of my read to zero authors because I’m almost there. And Kate Angelo has published with Sunrise before, I think, and now she has a very angsty sounding Revell book coming out! Woohoo! Good luck, Sandy!

  6. I’m not so much into suspense anymore…so I’ll go with “gentler” reads…lol!! Here’s a cozy mystery:
