  1. Here we go with another cartoonish cover, but it’s Liz Johnson, on Prince Edward Island at the Red Door Inn, so…Sometimes You Stay 5/20

    1. I have this one on my wishlist as well, Tracey. Not a fan of the cover bc in my opinion the Red Door Inn deserves a real cover! I liked the illustrated covers on Becky Wade’s Sons of Scandal series, but not Liz Johnson’s books. But I still plan on reading this one.

      1. I’m hoping the fad/trend towards cartoonish covers will fade away. I like the illustrated covers by Becky Wade, Nicole Deese and Courtney Walsh too. Deb Raney had a nice one on her most recent book. But there’s a big difference between an illustrated cover and a cartoonish style one. It makes the book seem like one that wasn’t written for “adults” and won’t have the depth we like. I’ll still read my favorite authors regardless but probably won’t be trying any new authors with the cartoon covers.

      2. I have a feeling they’re here to stay UNLESS sales drop. I’m not sure publishing companies would attribute drop in sales to the cover, however. When I’m reading a book I like a cover that goes with the story inside & these covers seem very immature. Like a YA book. Sigh . . .

    2. Ugh to the cover by yay to another Red Door Inn romance! Well, the only good thing about that cover is the Newfoundland dog. Love that breed! I have Sunrise Reef on Audible preorder because…Irene Hannon!…Hope Harbor!…narrator Therese Plummer!!! Good luck, Tracey!

      1. Maybe we should let publishers know how we feel about these covers? There’s always the option on Net Galley to like or dislike a cover when you request the book. And we could add a note to the publisher in Net Galley reviews so it’s not us publicly dissing the artwork.

      2. That’s a great idea about letting them know why we don’t like the covers. I loved the big doggie, too, but that was about it.

    1. Sigh, enjoy the sunshine of your beautiful day. We’re getting snow again…at least it’s not the sticking kind, but still, it’s the principle of the thing! 🙂 Good luck, Diane!

      1. So sorry about the snow, Kav. I know by now you’re more than tired of it. It’s supposed to get to 77° today. Time to start buying more flowers! Yay! I still don’t walk very well on my right foot bc of nerve pain so I don’t think hubby’s as excited about buying flowers as I am. 😜

    1. Got Denise’s on a pre-order sale from Amazon, believe it or not. Have never seen one of Denise Hunter’s new books this inexpensive before!

      1. Hunter has actually been doing the 7.99 preorder for the past few books. In fact, her Oct release is already up at 7.99 and I got it right when I saw it (The Second Story Bookshop) No cover yet, but doesn’t matter to me, I’m reading it!

      2. Wow, Tracey! Wonder why I never saw it for that price. 🤔 I’m thinking I may have won it (bc it’s showing I bought it, but no order info) & never looked at pre-order price, bc I remember regular price of $17.99 or something like that when I posted a review on Amazon. Can’t remember exactly what happened, but thanks for the heads up!

  2. Tempest at Annabel’s Lighthouse by Jaime Jo Wright (4/1)

I was glad to see another seasoned reader include this one in their picks because I think this is my first time participating in this particular giveaway style, and I wasn’t sure this book would qualify. LOL

    1. Good luck, Anne! And yes, as long as some of the story takes place in a contemporary timeline, it fits this category So Dual timelines can work for both historical genre day and contemporary as well as, in this case, suspense! Win, win, win!

We managed to dodge the blizzard last week that ended up passing south of us, but we have more snow expected this weekend, so I can commiserate with you on this long (albeit typical, for us) winter.
