Conversations with Kav – sharing fave bookish sites

This week’s conversation will be short and sweet since I’m going into pre-Reader’s Choice Week frenzy mode 🙂 Plus, today is my church’s General Meeting so church is going to be loooonnnng. Service first then a potluck lunch, then the GM, then kitchen clean up.

I was thinking about the sources I use to find out about books — specifically upcoming books and new-to-me authors, particularly Indies. I’ve shared about Closed Door Romance on instagram which has been such a wealth of information for me. And about the Christian Faith and Fiction YouTube channel and blog. Lou has just released a very comprehensive list of April releases which is pertinent to this weeks festivities. Here’s the link:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bOQEvwDG5xw

or, if you would just like to read the list from her blog: https://louallenwriter.wordpress.com/2025/03/20/new-christian-fiction-books-releasing-in-april-2025/

Australian author Narelle Atkins has started a YouTube channel /podcast. She reviews one book each week – on Thursdays. Love her reviews, they are comprehensive and thoughtful and full of interesting insights without spoilers. They are short and sweet — no more than 15 minutes. Here’s the link (and don’t be shy about subscribing to boost her new channel) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OPpDvzKb9No.

Narelle also has a blog and every Friday she features a Preorder Roundup with a list of soon to be releases and includes a lot of indie books. Here’s the link to the most recent one: https://www.narelleatkins.com/narelles-preorder-roundup-3-14-25/?utm_source=sendfox&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=narelle-atkins-march-newsletter

So, I thought it would be fun and ever so helpful if you could share any great book sources that you routinely check to keep up to date with all that’s going on in our corner of the Book World. Don’t try to post a link — WP comments won’t like it, but do give us enough information that we can find it in a google search.

Here’s to another productive Reader’s Choice Week!

  1. The main places I get new book info is from author newsletters, an occasional fb post and Baker Book House “coming soon”. Have a great Sunday, got to love a church potluck!

    1. I need to sign up for more author newsletters…I only follow a few authors that way. I do think that Baker Book House has the best user friendly website for readers. I wish more publishers followed their example. Happy Reading, Tracey. It was a great day but now I’m sooooooooo tired!

  2. Lou’s blog is a great source, not much she misses. Suspense Sisters blog, FB cover reveals (“liked” a lot of author pgs), Avid Readers of CF, NetGalley, & Baker House. Enjoy your busy Sunday!

    1. Cool beans! I didn’t know about the Suspense Sisters blog. I just signed up for it. I guess instagram is my Face Book these days, though it isn’t very interactive. I do get to see lots of cover reveals and new release announcements though. Happy Reading, Diane!

  3. I always go the Baker Books catalog. They list books by season and fiction/ nonfiction.
Christian book has a catagory of upcoming releases.
Carrie Schmidt at Reading is My Superpower has books listed by release month.
NetGalley has books available before they are published.
Favorite authors tell us ahead of time. So newsletters and blogs.
I will have to check our Narelle. She is so good about reposting my reviews on X. I will also check out your other suggestions .

    1. I really like the way Narelle book talks a book without spoilers — I really get a feel for the story and the characters. Reading is My Superpowers is a resource I don’t use enough. Thanks for the reminder. And I haven’t thought about Net Galley in terms of doing a book search. I guess because I only check out the audio books and Christian Fiction is few and far between but I guess I could look up different publishers and see what ebooks they have listed. Thanks for the tip. Happy Reading, Paula!

      1. Hi Kav and Paula, Thanks so much for the mentions. I love talking about books and I’m always looking ahead to see what’s coming up from trad publishers and indie authors.

Resources I like: Baker House Books (for upcoming trad pub releases), NetGalley, Carrie’s Reading is My Superpower blog, JustRead Tours, Inkwell Inspirations blog, author newsletters, Australasian Christian Writers blog and the socials (Instagram, X, Facebook, Pinterest). I follow a number of podcasts ie. The Historical Bookworm and YouTube channels ie. Oceana, Jaime Jo Wright’s MadLit Musings, Chautona Havig’s Because Fiction. Happy reading. 🙂

      2. Ooohhh, Narelle, you’ve given me some new searching points. Hooray. I knew about Just Read Tours but since I’m in Canada and don’t read ebooks, I didn’t pay them any mind other then reading reviews of books friends have ‘toured’, but now I see they have a website with a list of upcoming releases in 2025 that they will be featuring. So, woohoo! I didn’t know about the Australasian Christian Writers blog! I couldn’t find a way to sign up for notifications though. I’ll check back later and take a closer look. And I didn’t know about Madly Musings on Youtube! Subscribed now. Thanks so much for all the suggestions.

  4. Interesting. I am not a social media user, so I use author newsletters and Baker website for upcoming books. I also check my library and the larger metropolitan library, searching “new releases” for their upcoming purchases or recent purchases.

    1. My library tends to update new orders and new titles available every Tuesday so I always do a new book and books on order search weekly. My library doesn’t get a lot of CF though, so it’s not an exhaustive search by any means. A great resource though. And it helps me target what I’ll buy — if the library is getting a book in, I’ll cross it off my to buy list (unless a fave author or a series I’m collecting) and that way it narrows down the list of books to purchase. All the more for me to read that way! Happy Reading, CC!

  5. Carrie at Reading is my Superpower always does a new release post each month and it is pretty extensive broken down into categories. Other than that, I subscribe to several publishers email for info on new releases…

    1. I need to check out her monthly new releases posts. Silly me, I didn’t know that publishers had emailing lists! How did I not know that? Rushing off to check that out. Happy Reading, Patty!

  6. Author and publishing house newsletters, Reading is my Superpower blog (and this one😜), checking the pages for authors I follow on Goodreads and book groups/authors I follow on social media. Often authors recommend books and other authors that are new to me!

    1. Another mention of publisher newsletters — how has that not occurred to me before now?! I haven’t really gotten into following GR’s authors. Now that I’ve whipped my want-to-read shelf down to a manageable size maybe it’s time for me to branch out and start following some authors! Happy Reading, Elly!

  7. I rely on newsletters from authors, BookBub, and Amazon. Carrie at Reading is My Superpower always has a list of books coming out each month. I also learn of new (or just new to me) books from reading this blog. My book club members also recommend books. There is never a lack of books to read!

    1. Thanks, Courtney. I didn’t know about Madi’s Musings or Beyond the Bookery. Signed up for Madi’s Musings but couldn’t get to the website for Beyond the Bookery — found them on Instagram though. Happy Reading!

  8. Kav, I check Reading Is My Superpower for new releases but also notice a lot on Instagram and Goodreads too. And of course, your Reader’s Chocie Giveaways alerts me to lots of upcoming releases too. I love checking your blog almost every day to see what you’ve got going on here 🙂

    1. Yay — thanks for checking in to the blog so much. I appreciate it! I need to be more deliberate about checking Carrie’s blog. I am finding a lot of book info on instagram. I like that format because it’s short and sweet and visual. Plus it’s easy to tag things I want to look at later. It really suits me compared to say Facebook. Happy Reading, Cheryl!

  9. Tops on my list had to be your blog! Other places that help me find books are following authors (both for their new releases, discussion of their older books and recommendations of books by follow authors) as well as getting their newsletters, recommendations from friends, and strolling through a book store (while traveling to doctor appointments since there aren’t any in our small town). I also like to check Christian Book and Amazon for their upcoming Christian releases. I’m sure my choices are the ones most others refer to as well.

    1. We lost our Christian Fiction bookstore a few years back but I loved to browse around the shelves there. It was especially helpful when I was new to Christian Fiction. Local bookstores don’t carry a hot of CF so my browsing is all online now — which can lead me down some crazy rabbit holes during the search. lol I need to be more deliberate about following authors both on GR and Insta. Might have to dedicate an afternoon to that sometime soon…just now this week! Happy Reading, Kay!

  10. I am trying again for the third time and hopefully it doesn’t take my comment away. My two main sources are you and Avid Readers of Christian Fiction on Facebook. I do look at what people are reading on Goodreads sometimes. I follow many authors on Facebook since I’m not a newsletter gal. Sometimes I get great recommendations that way. check out a vlogger or a podcast once in a blue moon. I don’t care for bloggers who are rude or way over the top with their “triggers” and warnings about kissing. Lol

  11. I DO rely on your blog daily because it’s fun to see what like minds are enjoying and you’re certainly up to date with new releases.

I subscribe to Reading is my Superpower (Carrie Booth Schmidt)who sends out a Sunday newsletter with giveaways for her site and Goodreads for the week plus new releases.  She also does a monthly new release newsletter.  The only drawback is that she includes “clean” in addition to Christian fiction.  I’d rather have strictly CF, but she does an excellent job keeping me informed.

I get publishers newsletters like Baker Book House, Bethany House, Barbour, and Tyndale who send out new releases e-mails.  I also get the Christianbook (DOT) com flyer  in the mail which is helpful.

Subscribe!  Yes, subscribe to your fave author newsletters and you’ll get info on new releases and early peeks at the latest upcoming covers.  I probably get too many!  Irene Hannon has a free Kindle through 3/28!  Some authors also have free U-Tube audiobooks.

Avid Readers of Christian Fiction on Facebook is an excellent resource.  It is popular though and posts quickly get buried.

  13. Usually, I use Goodreads, Reading is My Superpower blog, and author newsletters to keep informed of new releases, debut books, etc. Sometimes I will look on Facebook for that type of news but not often.
