Oops! Snow Day!

So — we got hit with another crazy snowstorm this weekend and I lost Internet Saturday evening through to Sunday evening. I always schedule my reviews about a week in advance but I tend to write my Conversations With Kav posts on Saturdays depending on what I’m in the mood to talk about. So, while I was all chatty, the internet wasn’t cooperating so I couldn’t schedule the post. We’ll just have to save it for next week, I guess.

It’s like Mother Nature suddenly realized that winter was half over and she hadn’t been giving us enough attention so she made up for that this week. 36 cm on Thursday, 10 cm on Saturday and 30+ cm today…it’s still snowing so who knows how much it will end up being.

    1. Yes — the photo is taken from my front steps – which is as far as ventured out today. It’s an old neighbourhood with lots of mature trees. So beautiful in the freshly fallen snow, but lethal if the weight of the snow fells limbs that land on wires.

  2. Mother Nature will be giving us snow on top of bitter cold temps tomorrow and just plain bitter cold Tues – Thurs with a slight warm up on friday. I so over winter already.

    1. Argh — it’s the cold that gets me too. It’s usually armer when it’s snowing, but this time the wind really made it bitter. I’m not ready for the heat of summer but spring is sounding mighty fine right now. 🙂

  3. Love photos of snow! Now that hubby is retired and doesn’t have to get out in it, I’m good with it snowing, but after a few days I’m ready for it to leave. We are to get hit with old man winter Tuesday and last a few days. We are always stocked up, but will buy any last minute things tomorrow on the way home from the specialist. Thankful my appointment is tomorrow and not Tuesday or Wednesday. They are saying 8-10 inches for us, which probably isn’t much up your way. Living in the Ozark Mountains makes snow and ice have another layer of how to deal with it. Hubby learned that any mail in the box (down by the road) can stay there until things melt away. He went down one time, sliding down most of the way on his bum, only to have a devil of a time getting back up the hill the driveway is on. 🙂

    Pray you can stay in. Stay warm and enjoy a few books during those cold wintery days (and nights). That’s my plan any ways. ❤

    1. Yikes–that’s a lot of snow for you, isn’t it? Crazy weather this winter. Maybe you should keep a pair of skis by your door so you can ski down for the mail. lol Stay safe and warm, Kay. And yes, I’m working my way through my library TBR pile faster than usual.

  4. Wow, sounds crazy. We’re supposed to get hit with a big snow storm and scary-cold temps this week here in SE Kansas. Not looking forward to it one bit. Come on, spring! 🙂

    1. It’s never good to hear you are in a deep freeze because that usually means it’s heading our way next. It was bitter cold this morning on my walk but at least the plows had gone by so the roads were walkable. We have a lot of those articulated buses here (city transit) and they have to pull them when it snows like this ’cause they tend to jack knife and fish tail and they can’t make it up slippery hills. Though, maybe you were talking about school buses? Ours were cancelled on Thursday for the first storm. Happy Reading, Tammy. Stay warm!

  7. I was looking for you today & figured you just decided to take a Sunday break. Wow, that looks gorgeous, but cold! 🥶 Our temps shot up into the 70s, now it’s cold again. And rainy. Not your kind of cold, but SC’s cold. Our weather is really temperamental right now. Winter never likes to let go! Stay safe & don’t venture out too far! I worry about you slipping on the ice. 😲

    1. I can’t imagine temps in the 70s in February! Yo-yoing temperatures are the worst because they don’t give our bodies time to adjust. I got a walk in this morning — they plowed the streets so the walking was good. The snowbanks were up to my shoulders though! It was so quiet and pretty (today is a holiday for most people so not many were stirring. Just the odd dog walker and me.) Very cold though – -26 C, not sure what that is in F. Cold enough to freeze your face off. 🙂 I always walk with my rollator in the winter to guard against falls. Trying to get the gumption to go out again around noon. Hopefully it will warm up a bit.

      1. Fluctuating temps to that extreme doesn’t give your body time to adjust, you’re right. Also it’s hard to know how to dress, confuses the birds, & flowers start to bloom too early. Then freeze. There are so many people sick with the flu, rsv, & other crud. Our neighborhood was filled with cars this past week of neighbors who typically work but are home sick. It looked like a Saturday!

        -26 C is very cold in F. You are brave, gf. {{Brrr}} I’d definitely have to wear a ski mask & quite a few layers! But I’m glad you could get out for a walk. It’s very refreshing to take a walk out in the snow. As if I know. LOL! Well, I have been to the mountains when there’s a lot of snow so I sort of remember that experience. 🙄

That’s a gorgeous snow pic, but you can keep all of that white fluffy stuff up there.  It’s a well known fact that Texans don’t handle snow and ice well!  We’ll get pretty cold Tuesday night and some early morning 20 F temps for a couple of days, but no moisture predicted.  Fingers crossed!  Enjoy the pretty scenery.

  9. it is cold here in Mid Missouri. We are looking at 13” of snow coming our way on Tuesday and then plunging temperatures. I am staying in and reading and maybe a little sewing. I have a baby shower to go to on March 1. So I will sew some gifts.

    1. I think the states has been getting the lion’s share of the winter storms this year. A foot of snow will probably bring things to a standstill on Tuesday, eh? Enjoy your cozy home time with books and sewing.

  10. Wow! You really got dumped on! We’ve had a pretty good snowfall here in northern Utah the past few days. The mountains have gotten more than the valleys, so that’s good. The wires in our area are underground, so we’re usually okay unless there’s a big outage somewhere. Stay safe and warm, Kav!

    1. I live in the next neighbourhood to centretown so it’s an old established area with all the overhead wires. All the new developments in the suburbs have the underground cabling so they are better off…unless a power station has troubles and then we’re all sunk. Enjoy your snow day tomorrow, Winnie!   13. Beautiful neighborhood picture! Appreciate your sharing, as I had thought perhaps you were having storm related connectivity issues. I was hoping it was weather and not a family emergency. Like many others who commented, we are having high numbers of flu and RSV cases, which aren’t helped by changeable weather. We are anticipating some freezing rain and record low overnight temps mid-week. Take care of yourself!

    1. It’s just been a wonky winter for both weather and flus this year, hasn’t it? Nothing for a reader to do but quarantine at home with a nice tippy-toppy TBR pile to keep her company. 🙂

  14. Beautiful snow picture. We’re expecting up to a foot on Wednesday, yikes. Today was the first day in almost 2 weeks that I’ve gotten out and done my regular Mon. errands. Hubs and I have had that awful respiratory virus going around. Now it looks like we’re about to be housebound again, sigh…

    1. Our spring comes later — usually mid April and we can’t plant anything until mid May because of frost overnight but it will be nice to have the snow melt away eventually. It’s pretty right now but freezing!
