Conversations With Kav – Christmas Carol Book Tag + Giveaway

‘Tis the season for all the book tags and here’s another fun one I came across on Chautona Havig’s book tube channel. I stuck with Christmas books but I think the challenge was meant for any book. Feel free to answer one or some or all of the prompts in the comment section and I’ll throw your name in a giveaway draw for a $10 Baker Book House e-gift card.

Red, Gold & Greena book with a combination of these colours on the cover (was it ever hard to find all three on one cover!)

Carol Singing What is your favourite Christmas Carol? Pick a book with a title that includes a word from that song title. (Mary Did You Know?)

Christmas trees, wreaths and evergreens: a book that features nature on the cover.

Sending cards: a book with epistolary elements you read this year or want to read this year. (This one has some fun texting scenes so I’m counting it.)

Mistletoe: a book that features unrequited love.

Santa Claus: a book that features a character who’s old, maybe a little frightening, but endearing anyway.

Nativity scenes: family based historical fiction

Elf on a shelf: a book on your shelf that catches your eye but you haven’t picked up yet. (and that’s only because my order finally came in and I just picked it up!)

Christmas movies: favourite adaptation or a book you’d like to see adapted. (One I’d love to be made into a movie as long as they stuck to the plot and dialogue of the book!)

Ugly sweater: a book that made you laugh out loud. (So much!)

  1. What a fun challenge! πŸ™‚

I haven’t read it, but β€œChristmas in the Alps” works for red, gold and green, or the nature one. You’ve shared some gorgeous covers. Title and cover for β€œChristmas in the Castle Library” are super intriguing. Castle, library, and Christmas?? Hope to see your review soon!

    1. Christmas in the Alps definitely covers the gold better than my choice! Such a pretty cover. Oooh, Christmas in the Castle Library has been getting rave reviews everywhere and I am sooooooo excited to start reading it! Good luck, Stephanie!

  2. Christmas book tags, fun! It’s like a virtual Christmas party with games πŸ™‚ It would take a while to do them all, so I’ll just pick some at random.

Red, Green Gold, I looked back through the books I’ve read and Legacy of Hope by Renae B Green fits the bill on this one.

Christmas trees and evergreens-Have Yourself a Christiansen Christmas by Susan Warren.

Elf on a shelf, unread books that catch my eye-Hope for Christmas by Krista Jensen because we just talked about this one recently.

Christmas movie adaption-Hallmark did a good job with Christmas Town by Donna VanLiere. I’d love to see Melissa Tagg’s One Enchanted Christmas made into a movie.

I’ll check in later to see what others come up with. Happy Christmas book hunting to all!

    1. Groan…just what I need, another Christmas book to keep me away from my ever-growing non-Christmas TBR! At this rate I’ll be reading Christmas well into January. lol But Legacy of Hope does sound really, really good so…And I did not know that one of Donna VanLiere’s books was made into a movie! I’m going to look that one up. Thanks, Tracey. And good luck!

      1. Oh wow Kav, almost all of Donna VanLiere’s books have been made into movies, 7 or 8 at least. I’d love for her The Christmas Table to be a movie too. It’s a dual timeline set in 1972 and 2012, so so good. I recommend it and Christmas Town too. Also wouldn’t Pepper’s The Mistletoe Countess be a terrific rom-com? And once you read Christmas in the Castle Library you’ll think that’d make a great movie too. Ann Swindell just posted on Avid readers of CF on FB and I asked her when the next book is coming, 10/2025 (you’ll be trying to find that info too but it’s not out there yet)

      2. The Christmas Table was the first book I read by Donna VanLiere, on your recommendation. Fabulous! I’ve read a few in that series but I need to finish it. Heading over to my library website to see what they have available. And, woohoo, YouTube has Christmas Town the movie. Hooray!

  3. Fun! I couldn’t think of a book for all the prompts, but here are the ones I could. πŸ™‚

Red, Gold & Green – a book with a combination of these colours on the cover – Christmas At Sugar Plum Manor by Roseanna M. White

Carol Singing – What is your favourite Christmas Carol? Pick a book with a title that includes a word from that song title – Silent Night / Holy Night by Colleen Coble (O Holy Night)

Christmas trees, wreaths and evergreens: a book that features nature on the cover – We Three Kings by Crystal Caudill, Cara Putman, & Angela Ruth Strong

Sending cards: a book with epistolary elements you read this year or want to read this year – Beyond Ivy Walls by Rachel Fordham (not a Christmas book, but it worked!)

Nativity scenes: family based historical fiction – Christmas at Carnton by Tamera AlexanderΒ

Elf on a shelf: a book on your shelf that catches your eye but you haven’t picked up yet – Christmas At Sugar Plum Manor by Roseanna M. White (I know I already put this one as an answer, but the cover is gorgeous, and I haven’t read it yet. Hopefully soon though!)

    1. Ohhhhhhh, Christmas at Sugar Plum Manor is perfect fro the red/green/cold challenge and yet another Christmas book I haven’t read yet and I’ve read over fifty so far this year! That Colleen Coble book has two carols in the title — very good pick and nothing like a little Christmas suspense to get into the festive mood! Bwahahaha! Beyond Ivy Walls totally works for the epistolary challenge. I think this was actually supposed to be a reflection on books read over the year, not just Christmas but that’s the way I went because I’ve read so many lately. Good luck, Sabrina!

  4. Good Morning!

Red, Green and Gold books I’ve read and loved this year are Christmas at Sugar Plum Manor and Waiting for Christmas by Lynn Austin.

I also read all of the Ivy Hill books this year and just borrowed my library copy of Waiting for Gilbert.

I would like to see a movie of Catching Christmas by Terri Blackstock. That’s a book I’ve read multiple times because I love it!

Oh, yessss, Catching Christmas would make a fantastic holiday movie. It would become a classic like It’s a Wonderful life! Good luck, Sandy!

Nature – Cowboy Christmas by Mary Connealy

Red, Gold, Green – Designs on Love by Myra Johnson

Elf Shelf – Remembering Christmas by Dan Walsh

Family – A Texas Legacy Christmas by DiAnn Mills

Will be checking back later to read all the other comments!

    1. You’re reminding me that I need to reread Cowboy Christmas. One of my first ever Christian Fiction books — definitely the first Christmas one so I’m feeling all nostalgic. I haven’t read a Myra Johnson book in ages and I love the sound of that novella! I bet I can squeeze it in before Christmas! Maybe. πŸ™‚ I read all of Dan Walsh’s earlier books and his Christmas ones were some of the best — gave me all the feels. Might have to revisit them as well. A Texas Legacy Christmas by DiAnn Mills looks like it’s historical — I’m familiar with her suspense but don’t think I’ve read any of her historical books. Must check and see if my library has any. Thanks for the reading inspiration, CC. Good luck!

  6. How fun! I haven’t read all these yet, but they are on my Kindle…

Red, gold, & green – The Christmas Clue to Finding You by Pepper Basham

Not my favorite Christmas carol, but it is a Christmas song (lol) – Holly Jolly Christmas by CC Warrens

Christmas trees, wreaths, and evergreens – Once Upon a Cove Christmas by Maryann Spencer

Unrequited Love (at 1st) A Country Christmas by Lisa Carter

Elf on a shelf – Their Holiday Secret by Betsy St Amant

Ugly Sweater – ‘Christmas with a Crank’ literally starts out with an ugly sweater contest, embarrassing the heroine in front of a good looking guy!

      1. Loved A Christmas Clue to Finding You! And I believe we’ll be getting a new Pepper Basham masterpiece early in 2025. Woohoo! And a C C Warrens Christmas suspense?! I better get cracking on Criss-Cross which is on my TBR right now. Eeeeepppp! I need to read Christmas with a Crank…but I need to read the first two books first…so yes, that means I’m officially three years behind in Courtney Walsh Christmas books. Yikes! Good luck, Diane!

        Liked by 1 person

      2. I haven’t read Courtney’s previous Christmas books either. But thankfully they stand-alone. I recently started reading Criss-Cross, but a few chapters in I felt like it was a continuing series that really didn’t stand alone & that I’d be overwhelmed trying to play catch up. So I quit reading it. Plus I read on Avid Readers of CF that there’s no romance. I don’t necessarily like books oozing with it, but some is a necessity! πŸ˜†

    1. I haven’t read any of the Jan Karon books…well, I read one way out of order for a review and felt so lost. It seems like a series that needs to be read in order. However, my library has Shepherds Abiding so I put it on hold. Maybe I should be the Mitford series on my reads list for 2025. Good luck, Cheryl!

  8. One of my favorite Christmas carols is the somewhat obscure “Birthday of a King,” and I just reread The King’s Mercy by Lori Benton (not a Christmas book, but very good). It even had some epistolary moments–I think the epilogue was entirely comprised of letters!

    1. I have never heard Birthday of a King before. I had to google it and give it a listen. It’s so pretty! Must see if they will add it to our Christmas programme next year. It’s been a while since I’ve read a Lori Benton book…must remedy that next year. Good luck, Rachael!

  9. I couldn’t think of a book for every prompt, and they’re not all completely Christmassy, but it was fun trying. 😊

Red, Gold & Green – a book with a combination of these colours on the cover – A Holiday by Gaslight by Mimi Matthews

Carol Singing – What is your favourite Christmas Carol? Pick a book with a title that includes a word from that song title. – Too many good songs to choose from, BUT I’ll go with White Christmas (only by Bing Crosby! πŸ˜œ) which is also the name of Cara Putman’s book in the three in one book Where Treetops Glisten.

Christmas trees, wreaths and evergreens: a book that features nature on the cover. – One More River to Cross by Jane Kirkpatrick

Sending cards: a book with epistolary elements you read this year or want to read this year. – The Letter Tree by Rachel Fordham

Mistletoe: a book that features unrequited love. – Pride and Prejudice by Jane AustenΒ

    1. Argh! I still haven’t read The Letter Tree!!!!! January for sure. Yes, that’s what first stood out for me from your comments….it’s reader guilt nagging at me. πŸ™‚

A Holiday by Gaslight has such a pretty cover. I read that one years ago. Might be time to give it a reread. Good on you for finding a title that exactly matches the Christmas Carol title. White Christmas sung by Bing Crosby is a classic for sure! And speaking of classics — look at you throwing one in for unrequited love. Pride and Prejudice definitely fits the bill. I have only read one Misty M. Beller novel and every time I turn around she’s releasing another one. There’s my reader guilt prickling me again! Your last two seem to only be in ebook editions, boohoo, since I don’t read ebooks. Maybe they will release them all as individual novellas like Pepper Basham did with A Christmas Clue to Finding You. Good luck, Bridget!

Ugly Sweater: You Make it Feel Like Christmas by Toni Shiloh

Whew! That was more challenging than I expected but it was almost impossible not to duplicate some answers. I’m still intrigued to read Christmas in the Castle Library by Ann Swindell, hopefully someone will comment on this? I just haven’t gotten my hands on a copy yet and the library doesn’t have it. 1. You did it! Yay! I found finding the red/green/gold cover the hardest. I am going to read Christmas in the Castle Library this week. Sooooo excited that my copy finally came in at the bookstore. With the Canada Post strike even courier deliveries have been delayed because of increased volume so what normally would have taken a week took four! It has rave reviews, Tracey among them so we know it’s going to be wonderful! Good luck, Perrianne!

      1. Thank you! I just found out that the library will order Christmas in the Castle Library! Yay! There’s no telling what format it will be in, because you do request a format but that’s not always honored. It will probably take a month or so to get it, but maybe that’s faster than your post office since they are/were? On strike. What way to mess up Christmas gift orders!

        Liked by 1 person

      2. Ohhh — love that your library has ordered it! Yeah, Canada Post has gone back to work as of yesterday but negotiations still aren’t settled. It’s going to take about a month to clear up their backlog they say and who knows what kind of service we’ll get for awhile until negotiations are finally settled. Rotten timing — especially for small businesses who already struggle to keep afloat and this season is so important for sales.

I had forgotten about The White Christmas Inn! That one deserves a re-read sometime. Across the Ages is an interesting choice for the epistolary book. Amazing how so many have that element in it. I’ve only read the first book in her Timeless series and I think the fifth is getting ready to release? ack! I used to enjoy Naomi Rawling’s Love Inspired Historical novels. I really need to look into her indie published ones. Tomorrow’s First sounds really good. Adding her to my 2025 list. I somehow missed that Mindy Steele had a Barbour release this year! I need to get more organized! Love your books that make you laugh picks Good luck, Kay!

  16. So many good ones ~ A Christmas Promise by Gabrielle Meyer 2022 ~ the rest are this year’s, and so many trees on the covers. I picked Wishing for Mistletoe by Robin Lee Hatcher; Waiting for Christmas by Lynn Austin; Christmas at Sugar Plum Manor by Roseanna M. White; The Christmas Tree Farm by Melody Carlson; Beyond Ivy Walls by Rachel Fordham, and Rocky Mountain Journey by Misty M. Beller. So many Christmas songs with memories through the years. I’ll Be Home for Christmas; Mary Did You Know; Silent Night. I wrote down the titles without their topic location! Switching back and forth between pages :). Merry Christmas to all! Today was 72 degrees when my daughter texted me to layer dress for 20 degrees. That will be a frosty plunge! Kathleen
