It’s a new Best Reads blog tradition! Celebrating the month’s new releases the first week of each month.
Because I recently discovered that a book’s success or failure is often determined by first month sales! (Though I bet preorders play into that as well.) Publishing houses look at those stats to determine whether they’ll add on to a series or accept the author’s next manuscript! All that literary goodness hanging in the balance but for a month’s worth of sales! (This was a cozy mystery author, but I imagine all traditional publishers use the same ‘system’.) So, I thought I should do my wee little bit to promote Christian Fiction.
By hosting a special “Hello — insert month” giveaway. It’s easy to play along. You just have to choose one of the November 2024 new releases on your TBR wishlist (must be Christian Fiction) and mention the title in a comment below (or email me at kavluvstoread AT yahoo DOT ca.) If your name is drawn, that September release is the book you will win and we’re one book count closer to keeping our fave authors in business.
GIVEAWAY OPPORTUNITY AVAILABLE TO:
ebook for anyone anywhere who has an Amazon.com kindle account
US – paperback or ebook copy — winner’s choice
Canada -paperback or ebook (in form of an Amazon gift card) or audible.ca audio book (if available) – winner’s choice
Draw will be held and winner announced on Saturday November 9 2024.
Hello November! I can’t believe you’re here again 😮 What happened to this year??
Anyway, thanks to Meez Carrie (Carrie from Reading is my Superpower blog) who posts monthly books coming out….I saw this little gem from an author I’ve never heard of but the book sounds intriguing. So my choice is:
To Choose the Longshot by Lisa M. Prysock (November 5th)

I know, right? How is it November already? Seems like we didn’t get much of a fall weather wise…but the trees sure were pretty. This is a new to me author as well. And it’s set in the Gilded Age! Good luck, Trixi!

Hello November! Such a busy time of year! In addition to Thanksgiving and Christmas preparations we have 6 birthdays in our family this month and my sister is coming from Alabama to stay for a week. But I love it all 🙂
My #1 pick for Nov. is Cornered. I don’t read much suspense because I’m a scaredy cat but I love Lynn Backburn and having these 3 stories as novellas insures they don’t get too detailed in their descriptions 😉
Thanks for the giveaway Kav. tracey14567 at gmail dot com

Wow — 6 birthdays plus Thanksgiving?! You’ll be busy — perfect time for novellas. I just preordered this one on audible…the first non-Christmas book I’ve bought in a while. 🙂 Good luck, Tracey!

Oh, and that’s one good thing about Canadian Thanksgiving being in October. The pressure is off before Halloween and then we can settle in to a nice slow burn anticipation of Christmas!

Hello November! I’ve already started my online Christmas shopping so I can relax more during the month of Dec. 😃 And I just got done posting my review for Unforgotten on the sites that wouldn’t allow early reviews. Even though I don’t celebrate Christmas with a crank, I’d love to read about someone who is!! 😂

Well, SORTA Christmas-y organized. I AM off to a good start anyway. I did order for those I need to send outta town since that takes the longest. I still have 3 gkids I need ideas for. We’ve got 2 Thanksgiving dinners & 3 Christmas parties coming up & those visions of sugarplums dancing in my head are dissipating bc of awful nerve pain levels escalating with cooler temps. 😢 Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do & that means 1 Thanksgiving & 1 Christmas party for kids & gkids on Christmas Eve. 😟 You just can’t please everybody (no matter how much you want to) and there’s always next year.

It’s true, from what I’ve heard. Y s, I’m pretty sure preorders play a part. Getting reviews for the book within that first few weeks also seems to really help. As a reader I don’t know the details, but do know that several authors I’ve read for and been around often state the same, from a variety of genre too.
This is a great way to help those books be seen, and at a critical time for the authors. Thanks for sharing, I love this idea!

*I keep forgetting to mention books in my comments 😅* Hmm, Sara Blackard has a special offer for her A Rebel’s Shot. It comes out in December, but if readers want it earlier, they can preorder it directly from her website and get it mid-late November. She didn’t give an exact date, but did say the offer is only available until she sends them, all orders after that will have to wait for the Amazon release date in December.

I’ve read a few of her Stryker Security Force suspense novels and enjoyed them. I didn’t realize that she lives in Alaska! And this Rebel series is set in Alaska. I’m drawn to Alaskan suspense stories! Good luck, Books Less Travelled.

Kinda crazy to limit a book’s success by first month sales (and preorders!) I still don’t see the sense in that. Good point on early reviews — they help too.
LikeLiked by 1 person
Sorry that my comment glitched, no idea why the first part ended up so choppy. I agree though! Definitely crazy if the author is newer or lesser known too, since of course the ‘top sellers’ will make more sales in the first month, people can’t really preorder from someone they don’t know exists, so it’s a very biased system on the part of the publisher, but then again 🤷♀️ that’s business, I guess. I definitely agree that as readers and bloggers we should try to talk more and share about the books we love and upcoming releases were excited for. Both to help the authors, but also so other readers can find good books to enjoy. Win-win for the authors of the books we love and for fellow readers who might not find out about that next amazing read otherwise. I know personally, that if it wasn’t for things like bookstagram, Goodreads, and the Christian Fiction blogging community, I would have likely never found some of my now favorite books. So I’m thankful that I found this community, and humbled that I get to be even a tiny part of it in a way that I can try to give back.

Yes, they say reader recommendations are one of the best marketing tools for an author. I think they should take the stats from at least 6 months from the release date. Library sales are a huge boon for book sales but they can’t schedule their purchasing by release dates or even months! I totally count on like-minded readers to steer me towards my next reads so I’m so grateful for the bookish communities online.
