Reader’s Choice Goal Review Giveaway

HOW THIS GIVEAWAY WORKS

Another Best Reads Blog tradition is quarterly reading goal reviews. I’ll share my progress (or not!) here just for some fun, book nerdy stats and, if you’re so inclined you can share a goal or two in the comments. But no pressure – a goal can be as simple as ‘read a book.’

So, to enter this giveaway, just share anything goal related in the comments. Then, in the same comment, list a book that will help you reach your goal. So it looks like this:

“I want to catch up on some suspense series. Night Prey by Susan Sleeman.”

NOTE: BOOKS MUST BE CHRISTIAN FICTION

You can enter up to three times in three separate comments — and you can use the same goal or a different one each time, but a different title for each entry.

Books can be published any time up through to September 2024. Currently published books will be ordered this coming week for winners, otherwise it will be an IOU for a title releasing later in July, August or September 2024.

Shout out to Perrianne for putting me onto Chirp and I’m so blessed to have Net Galley audio books to review now (thank you, Tracey for giving me the nudge to check them out) — I’m averaging 4 or 5 NG audio books a month so that’s fantastic!

My first five goals centre around authors and I’m sad to say, I’ve let the indie and debut goals slide a wee bit. I plan on paying special attention to them this next quarter.

‘Serious About Series’ is popular on Book Tube and Bookstagram and I tweaked the 2024 challenge a bit to suit my goals. (The original challenge was to target 24 series you want to make progress on over the year.) I’ve found it really helpful to refer to my lists, particularly when I’m searching for books at my library and I’m pleased with my progress so far. (Though I will confess to starting way more than 24 series — and most of them NOT on my list. 🙂

Okay, that’s enough nerdy stats stuff. Let’s get on with the giveaway!

    I was just thinking the other day I liked when RC week had “the one that got away” category and thanks to Kathryn I see we can do any book previously published through Sept here, yay.

  8. I set my Goodreads goal at 150 books this year, but with the addition of text-to-speech on my kindle and listening to books at faster speed I hit 120 yesterday.

    1. Ooh,,, you’re going to hit the 150 books by the fall I bet. I’ve been hearing such great things about Love Overboard. I’be been holding out for an audio copy but I don’t think there will be one. I don’t think any of Kregl’s books are produced in audio format. 😦 Lucky for me my library just got a copy in so….Good luck, Tracey!

      1. I really enjoyed Love Overboard! My little sister kept demanding I tell her what was going on every time she’d catch me snorting or giggling as I read that one, lol. I was later told by another of my sisters that she was running promptly to her to relay whatever comical event had just occurred, with great enthusiasm😂

    I went to war in Burma in Darkness Calls the Tiger, by Janyre Tromp (fit all those goals), went to Barbados in To Speak His Name by new author, Tara Johnson (new author/diversity)

      1. I’m not typically a novella fan but during the busyness of Christmas they are fun & convenient!

        Yep, been shooting hoops with the globetrotters. Ha! BTW is that group still entertaining with their basketball prowess? 🤔

        I just finished Creston Mapes new suspense, Celebrity Pastor. I’ve heard a lot about his books but I thought his novels would be really creepy. The book wasn’t creepy at all, but it was so intriguing I read it in 2 short evenings.

  12. And just for the fun of it, my competitive side is trying to keep up with you Kav…by half. I think with my 120 books I’m achieving that goal and that’s saying something because I lost an entire week of reading when I went on vacation in April. I didn’t catch back up until this past week, lol.

    Any book will further my quest to be “half as fast as Kav”, haha. And this one also helps me keep up with a series-

    1. Half as fast as Kav?!! I’ll never even make it half as fast as you, Tracey! Amazing! I can’t even. 😲 With this brain fog & pain, I am proud of myself . . . just a eeny iny. I’m now hitting around 3 books a week which for me is a vast improvement. 🐢🐌

      1. Thanks, Kav. I feel like I’m crawling like a snail, but I have to get up every few mins, walk around a little bit or do a chore, read some more, repeat. Sigh . . .

        Oh, yes! God bless these authors! In Celebrity Pastor, the wealthy pastor’s wife was going through so much uncertainty, anxiety, & emotional pain, I forgot all about my physical pain for awhile! Whew, that book was an emotional rollercoaster!!

    3. Kav, did you say brave? You should’ve been a fly on the wall when I was reading Garden Girls by Jessica Patch. Yikes! I can’t count how many times I looked over my shoulder, out the sliding glass door to my back patio. Finally got tired of that & just pulled the curtains! 😬😲 And it wasn’t even dark out yet. Bwahahaha

  13. My reading goal for the year is 601 – it was 600 last year, which I hit and bypassed, and my brother-in-law joked that should make it 601 for this year.

    I am at 302, so a hair over halfway

      7. I’ve noticed publishers have really cut back on the books they’re putting out in a year, and as there have been a lot of excellent books published in the last few years, my goal has been to reread! I’ve pretty well worked through the stash I own, but there are many I wish I had!

      13. This is my favorite of the RCW as I enjoy seeing your amazing charts and graphs! Plus, the comments from others. One of the participants mentioned it seemed not as many books are being released, and I had wondered the same thing since we are now long past the challenges in publishing brought about by the pandemic. Maybe it just seemed that there was a wider selection prior to that time. I read 37 books during the last quarter and there were more than usual that I didn’t finish. The longest one was an actual history, approximately 800 pages. Most of my books came from the library, but I did, in the last six weeks, purchase four books.

        1. Post COVID the prices for books seem to have gone up quite a bit so maybe the cost of producing a book has made publishers scale back the number they publish? I’ve noticed this time round that there were fewer Amish titles releasing. Also, the summer is a slow time for publishing, I think, unless it’s a trendy beach read. Let’s cross our fingers for the Fall releases. And an 800 page book???? I can’t even….I’d be traumatized, I think. 🙂 I get a lot of books from my library too — I love my library!!! Good luck, CC!
