Reader’s Choice Goal Review Giveaway – Spring Edition

Photo by Markus Winkler on Pexels.com

Another Best Reads Blog tradition is quarterly reading goal reviews. I’ll share my progress (or not!) here just for some fun, book nerdy stats and, if you’re so inclined you can share a goal or two in the comments. But no pressure – a goal can be as simple as ‘read a book.’

So, to enter this giveaway, just share anything goal related in the comments. Then, in the same comment, list a book that will help you reach your goal. So it looks like this:

“I want to catch up on some suspense series. Night Prey by Susan Sleeman.”

NOTE: BOOKS MUST BE CHRISTIAN FICTION

You can enter up to three times in three separate comments — and you can use the same goal or a different one each time, but a different title for each entry.

Books can be published any time up through to June 2024. Currently published books will be ordered this coming week for winners, otherwise it will be an IOU for a title releasing later in April, May or June 2024.

See? Easy Peasy. But if you’re still not clear, don’t be shy about asking questions.

Books Read: 137

Other is a mix of YA, Middle Grade, Fantasy, Novellas & Fairytale Retellings.

I’m surprised that Contemporary won out over Historical because I feel like I’ve read a lot of Historical Fiction. And cozy mysteries took up almost half my reading in the first quarter of 2024!

Five of my goals relate to authors and I made pretty good headway on four of them as you’ll see in the graphic below. (Yes, I’ve gone graph made…but…humour me.) The goal I did rather abysmally in was #5, where I was supposed to concentrate on certain authors’ backlists. I read all of 3 books! Will definitely have to concentrate on this goal for my spring/summer reading.

A few other goal highlights from January – March 2024:

  • I did really well with my Diversity goals — 58 out of 137 books! That’s just over 40% of the books I read. Diversity includes settings other than the US, ethnic diverse authors and characters and non-American authors. I’m really enjoying the added variety this brings to my fiction. Hope to make it 50% by the next Goal Review.
  • I actually achieved my Reading out of my Comfort Zone goal already! I set 5 titles for the whole year and it’s done and dusted. Woohoo me!!!!
  • I’m making some headway on the series I targeted for this year. I chose 24 new-to-me series to start (guess how many I started that weren’t on my list?!), 24 series to catch up on and 24 series to keep current with. I started 7 of the new-to-me series, am working my way through 8 of the catch-up series (only 3 are caught up) and am current with 15 of the 24 series on that list. So not bad. 🙂
  • And, of course, I kept up with all my reading stats!

Phew! That’s it for me. How about you?

Share below and remember to include a book title that will help you achieve any kind of reading goal. You can enter three times in three separate comments using the same goal or different ones. What ever strikes your fancy. Just make sure each entry is for a different title.

DRAW WILL BE HELD AND WINNER ANNOUNCED ON

SATURDAY APRIL 13 2024.

OFFER OPEN TO ANY READER WHO HAS A KINDLE .COM ACCOUNT FOR EBOOKS. OTHERWISE IT’S WINNER’S CHOICE OF PAPERBACK OR EBOOK FOR US AND CANADIAN ENTRIES.

  1. I LOVE your breakdown of book statistics!

*My main goal is my Goodreads book goal of 150 books. Because I have followed in your footsteps and started listening to my books while I get other things done, I have really increased my book count. One of my goals, just for the fun of it, is to see if I could keep up with you by half and I did it this month! Woopie! 70 books so half of your 137. I feel so Kav-like and accomplished, lol 😉

**I also wanted to read a debut or new-to-me author every month. I’ve read 11 so that’s checked off.

***My third goal is to read my favorite authors as their books release each month. I’ve kept up with this pretty well so far and that’s the goal I’m using to pick

Born of Gilded Mountains by Amanda Dykes coming in June

  2. I need a new-to-me author for this month so I’d like to try this cruise ship romcom.

Love Overboard by Shannon Sue Dunlap releasing May 21st.

    1. Bwahahahaha! I’m so thrilled that you are enjoying listening to books as well as reading them. Isn’t it fun to keep company with favourite characters while going about your ho-hum chores? Love your book choices. I am quite interested in that Love Overboard – sounds so different. Oh, the fun reads we find during Reader’s Choice Week! And hooray you for your GRs goal achievement! Good luck, Tracey!

  7. I love Tracey’s comment that she feels Kav-like & accomplished. I don’t feel Kav-like at all when I see those beautiful, organized pie charts! Except for the fact we both love books. Bwahahahaha

Reading goals are to be more diverse in people & places –
I’ve been to the Philippines, Africa, Italy, Nova Scotia & Barbados & have been reading more about the Jewish ppl & Irish slaves

    1. Oooohhh, and that last one is an enemies to more! And ha! to my pie charts — you should see all the duds I create before I finally get it right! Math and stats was never my thing. Good luck, Diane!

      1. Well they’re pretty impressive now! Speaking of pies, I just know you don’t buy frozen pie crusts. You make your own & roll the dough out with a rolling pin. With fresh fruit preserves that you canned yourself. I determined all that just by looking at your book pie charts. hahaha

    1. Yessss!!! This is one I’m really looking forward too as well. My library got the first book in and I’ve been waiting for them to order this one but it hasn’t happened yet so I might have to look elsewhere. Really loved the first book. Good luck, Cindy!

  19. Going back to my goal of finishing series (I have a lot, LOL), I would like to finish Elizabeth Goddard’s Rocky Mountain Courage series. The book that would complete that goal is Critical Alliance. Thanks so much for doing this Kav, whether we win or not, it’s always a bright spot in my day to come by your blog.

    1. We are on the same wave length (or should that be page length?) I have yet to read Critical Alliance and it’s been on my Audible wishlist for ages. Might just have to move it into my cart. Good luck, Cindy!
