My Review:

Amish + Marriage of Convenience = Bookish Glee

I don’t often run across a contemporary Marriage of Convenience story so I get excited when I find one. It can be a hard sell for a 21st century timeline but Bayer makes it work in this heartwarming romance.

I especially loved David’s two little girls and the way he relates to them. Poor little Mindy is so lost and confused after losing her mam and David will do anything to make things better…even marry a woman he doesn’t love!

I liked the way their relationship developed, with plenty of bumps along the way as they hesitantly start to open their hearts and contemplate a ‘real’ future together. There’s also an unexpected plot twist that sets the scene for Bayer’s next book scheduled to release in 2024.

I did feel that there were some discrepancies in the Amish lifestyle and culture though. And I was surprised at the lack of any kind of faith thread. Not even a mention of God or prayer. I’ve read secular Amish fiction with more inspirational input, so that was disappointing — especially coming from the Love Inspired line. Otherwise, A Convenient Amish Bride is an enjoyable sweet, clean contemporary romance.

  2. I also think it unusual not to have a faith thread. I don’t recall reading Amish fiction without one. However, I always love Amish books and know I would enjoy it.

  3. I love a good marriage of convenience story. It is very surprising and disappointing that there is no thread of faith in the book though. Still, it sounds like a good story!

  4. What? No faith thread? In a Love Inspired? Wow, that is surprising because I thought it was a standard for the publisher & author. I really pray they don’t go the way of Thomas Nelson and a few others, that would be really sad & disappointing.

    Anyway, I do love marriage of convenience stories & Amish fiction, so this would be a perfect combination to read! Thanks for always writing honest reviews, Kav, it’s refreshing. It sure helps me decide whether or not to give a book a chance or not 😊

    1. You’re welcome, Trixi. I don’t think that Love Inspired has plans of changing — hope not, anyway! Sometimes the faith threads are subtle, but they are always there. This being an Amish setting made it more noticeable when there wasn’t any faith thread. Good luck!

  5. How can you not adore that cover – cute kiddos in front, gorgeous sunflowers and then beautiful mountains in the backdrop PLUS the Amish genre LI book! A story that I would love to wrap myself in and not come back to the “normal” world until I had devoured it. I, too, have the big question – what happened to faith based? I’m glad I would know going in so I wouldn’t be shocked or better yet be rubbing me head going “what’s wrong here?”.

    1. Speaking of sunflowers…I actually succeeded in growing some this year and they are looking gloriously sunny. I’ve tried for years but squirrels kept snitching the seeds as soon as I planted them. I finally created a squirrel proof cage to give my sunflowers a head start. lol Totally off topic but you did say ‘sunflowers’. Good luck, Kay!

      1. We love growing sunflowers and do often. We didn’t this year for some reason or other. We never had trouble with them getting the seeds we planted. However, it was a hoot to see them skinny up the big bases of the plants to get to the big heads to start plucking the seeds out went the seeds were mature. I thought it was amazing that they knew when to climb the plant because they never did or attempted to before the seeds started to ripen. Glad you had some luck this year!
