Reader’s Choice — Historical Fiction

Reader’s Choice Giveaway – Spring into Books Edition

So, here’s how this week’s giveaways works: You recommend CHRISTIAN FICTION genre specific titles with release dates in April, May or June 2023 (up to three suggestions per genre day) and you have a chance to win one of your recommendations! BUT it’s a little more complicated than that so be sure to read ALL the details before entering.

IT’S HISTORICAL ROMANCE / FICTION GIVEAWAY DAY!

To be entered in the draw just leave a comment (or 3) below, including the title(s) of the book(s) in the Historical Romance / Fiction genre you would like to win.

Historical Romance / Fiction — a full length story or novella or collection of novellas set in any time period before 1980. May cross genres such as YA, Suspense, Amish etc and may include dual timelines.

How does it work?

Easy peasy! Make recommendations in the comment section and if you win, you win the book you suggested.

BUT YOU GOTTA FOLLOW THE RULES!

Publication date must be April, May or June 2023

Each day is genre specific, so only submit titles from that genre

Christian Fiction books only please!

You can offer up to three suggestions per genre day BUT they need to be made in 3 separate comments (easier for me to keep track of.)

No email entries this time round since comments are working on WP

OF SPECIAL NOTE: IF YOU HAVEN’T COMMENTED ON THIS BLOG BEFORE, YOUR FIRST COMMENT WON’T APPEAR UNTIL I APPROVE IT. AFTER THAT YOUR COMMENTS WILL POST AUTOMATICALLY.

Entrants must submit their own selections (no piggybacking on someone else’s log in.)

Open to International Readers (I’m all about sharing the love of Christian Fiction far and wide!)

It’s helpful to include your email (using AT and DOT instead of @ and . to protect yourself from spammers) but you only need to add it to one of your comments per day. If you choose not to include your email, then it’s up to you to contact me if you are a winner.

Draw will be held and winner announced on Saturday April 1

(You can enter any of the giveaways up until noon on April 1. Winners will be announced later that afternoon.)

    1. Eeeeppp — off to a rip-roaring start here, Kay. These all look good…and Robin Lee Hatcher starting a British series?! FYI — To Enchant a Lady’s Heart is only available as an ebook at the moment — but it’s indie published and they often add print editions later. But, just in case, you can go ahead a switch that first one to be on the safe side ’cause I know you are like me and don’t read ebooks. Totally up to you. Good luck, Kay!

    1. And starting off with a spooky-ish one! Vampires in North Yorkshire?! I think not — a mystery is afoot, I say, along with a bit of Dracula imagining? You are a brave reader, Diane! 🙂 Good luck!

      1. Not really brave. I read with the lights on. haha However, Michelle Griep usually has an explanation for any creepiness like Jaime Jo Wright! I think her Castle Moreau book was supposed to be creepy, but just gothic eeriness actually.

      2. I was just rereading the description of this one to see if it qualified for suspense day & realized the heroine is a librarian!! A librarian!! How bad can it it be?!!

  2. Good Sunday Morning Kav and fellow Bestreaders!

First off, I have read early copies of:
Fairest of Heart by Karen Witemeyer 6/6
The Swindler’s Daughter by Stephania McGee5/2
Both are 5 star reads I recommend!

This is Where it Ends by Cindy Sproles 6/27
Trying a new to me author 🙂 looks to be a dual timeline starting in 1872

    1. Happy Sunday, Tracey. And sssqquuuueeeepppp, did you just reveal a Snow White retelling Texas style in your early reads?!!!!!!! Gasp and giddy, that’s me. And you give it five starts as well? The Swindler’s daughter sounds intriguing too. I haven’t read anything by Cindy Sproles either but after reading the synopsis I want to know what’s in that box too! Good luck!

      1. Yes! Karen did an outstanding job with this Snow White retelling, it’s subtle but there. You can check out my review on Goodreads if you want to know more. BUT just get it, it’s great! She did A Texas Christmas Carol (Dickens) in Under The Texas Mistletoe(3 novellas-paperback) then as a single ebook. She won a Christy in the short category last year for it. Next year she’s doing another full length Cinderalla story, If the Shoe fits 🙂
The Swindler’s Daughter is billed as historical, but you get a mystery with it too. You can put on your detective hat and try to solve it while enjoying the historical romance, fantastic. Review for this one is also up on GR.

      2. I looovvvvveeee fairy tale retellings so I am sooo jazzed! And Under the Texas Mistletoe is the Christmas book that got away last year so I will definitely remedy that this year.

    1. Whoa — shifting through three timelines?! With a potential romance in each era? I don’t think my heart could stand it. You’ll have to read it and tell me if I could cope. lol Good luck, Diane!

      1. Maybe more than a quadrangle if there happens to be a love triangle in 1 of those eras! I’m confused already! 🤔

      2. I haven’t read the first one, Patty, but I hear good things about it. It gave me pause because I believe the heroine is married in one of the timelines, but has a love interest in the other and I wasn’t sure about that but readers loved it.

      3. I haven’t read the 1st one either. Hmm, wonder how the author worked that out? But you’re right. Readers seem to love that one!

There’s just something about a riverboat story, there aren’t many out there 🙂
Thanks for RC week and all the giveaways. I’m looking forward to seeing what others have found. tracey14567 at gmail dot com

      1. I knew you’d love the male librarian hero just like I did when I saw it!
The only other riverboat story I’ve read was the one by Rachel McDaniels, Undercurrent of Secrets, loved it, and that’s probably why I’m drawn to this one.

      2. Squuueeeppp, I have Undercurrent of Secrets on my TBR right now!!!!!!! I didn’t know it was a riverboat story! I know that you recommended it to me though.

    1. Love riverboat stories too, Tracey, and when I saw the cover on FB I was drooling! lol I mentioned below, but didn’t know if you could see it or not. Did you read Rachel McDaniel’s dual timeline aboard a riverboat? SO good!

      1. Eeeep — I’m a late bloomer when it comes to this Wallflower Regency series by Carolyn Miller but I aim to read the third book in a timely fashion. 🙂 Good luck, Pam!

  6. I have been enjoyably browsing around Baker Publishers, among others, plus Goodreads’ most anticipated Christian fiction, etc., as well as reading the prior comments. As a side note, I did see an interesting upcoming book by an author on my keeper shelf, who previously wrote for a Christian publishing company, but this doesn’t appear to be such – Only the Beautiful by Susan Meissner.

So, anyhow, the first on my TBR list for the second quarter is Fairest of Heart by Karen Witemeyer.

    1. Yes, I believe Susan Meissner’s books are clean, but she writes for secular publishing now. I have one of latest books on hold at my library but she’s very popular so it’ll be a wait. 🙂 Good luck, CC!

    1. Keep — two great choices! Counterfeit Faith looks really good. I really liked Counterfeit Love and this looks like maybe in the same series? But I don’t see a series title. And I’m in the mood for a novella collection that isn’t Christmas so Across the Shores sounds perfect. Good luck, Caryl!

  11. Thank you Kav for spotting my boo boo! I’ll replace “To Enchant a Lady’s Heart” with this one:

    1. No problem, Kay. It’s hard with Indies because they often do offer paperbacks but don’t make that known until very close to the release date. This is a surer bet and sounds like a great story, plus it’s the beginning of a series. Good luck, Kay!

  12. Happy to see another reader’s choice giveaway! 🙂 My first choice (if it’s Christian fiction – not entirely sure) is The Secret Book of Flora Lea by Patti Callahan. I see it listed above so am thinking it’s okay 🙂

    1. I’m not hundred percent sure either, but am accepting it since we know the author has published Christian Fiction — noticed there’s an added Henry to her name and Once Upon a Wardrobe was just Patti Callahan. Maybe when it’s not CR it’s Patti Callahan Henry? Argh not sure, but I accepted it has entries for others so we’ll go with it and hopefully figure it out once we get to read the book. lol Good luck, Cheryl

      1. Kav, just did a little research. This one is published by Atria Books (a division of Simon & Schuster). Atria does list spirituality in some of its categories, but I’m wondering if those are nonfiction books. For fiction they say commercial, literary, women’s fiction, mysteries, and thrillers. Maybe this could fall into literary, women’s, or mysteries? But Atria Books also mentions that it’s faith-based imprint is Howard Books so would all Christian books be published by that imprint? I’m not sure. But like you said, maybe we’ll have to read it to find out 🙂

      2. And that’s about as clear as mud, right? bwahahaha! At least we know it will be a clean read without any coarse language! 🙂 Thanks for doing the research though. Time will tell, I guess.
