October Giveaway – Week One

Woke up to a fun email this morning. Author Jennifer Pierce happened on my review here and offered to provide an autographed copy of Trail of Suspicion to one lucky winner. And I’ll still do my draw so — yay — two winners!

Winners will be contacted if they left their email address, otherwise it’s up to the winner to contact me at kavluvstoread AT yahoo DOT ca (please note it’s ca as in Canada, not com.) From time to time a winner and I do not connect so I have a one month time frame on giveaway wins. If I haven’t been able to reach you within 30 days of your win, it will be forfeited. This has happened a few times now, so please, DON’T BE SHY — CONTACT ME IF YOU DIDN’T LEAVE AN EMAIL OR IF I HAVEN’T BEEN SUCCESSFUL IN REACHING YOU!

LOOKING AHEAD TO NEXT WEEK:

Conversations with Kav – a place for us to chat about bookish topics if anyone is so inclined. Sometimes there will be giveaways, sometimes there won’t. It will just depend on the topic of the day. Hope to see you there! Otherwise my inner book nerd and I will carry on by ourselves. Bwahaha!

Christy Award Finalists – Yes, it’s that time again. The Christy Award Finalists have been announced and we’re going to check them out by category every Monday. This week it’s First Novel.

Reader’s Choice Week Autumn 2025 Winners

Thanks for joining me for another week full of anticipatory bookish delights! My wishlist is plumped up and I might have placed a few preorders already! Am I the only one who noticed how many books are being released in October? Must be the ‘it’ month for book releases before Christmas.

Now it’s time to indulge my inner stats nerd (who knew she was lurking inside of me for all these years?!) I tallied all the books mentioned on the 4 specific genre days and came up with the popular pick for each one and here they are:

AND NOW FOR THE REST OF THE READER’S CHOICE WEEK WINNERS!

But wait, it’s not over yet. The Vanity category has become a blog tradition. It’s where a book is actually judged by its cover and I choose my favourite cover art per genre and then draw from a pool of readers who requested that title. Here are COVER LOVE winners!

Eyecatching. Campy. Playful. Nostalgic.

Striking contrasts. That pop of red! The softer details fading into the background. There’s more to see the more you look.

Love the warm tones, autumn leaves, the turquoise bookmobile. Plus…bookmobile…eeeeepppp!!!!!

Simple but so atmospheric!

WAIT! Don’t go away ’cause we’re not through yet. We have another Reader’s Choice tradition of picking a random number which becomes a ‘just because giveaway’ on the genre specific days. If that doesn’t make sense, all you need to know is that it means more book giveaways. Woohoo! This time the number is 70.

And that finishes off another Reader’s Choice Week. Thanks for participating and sharing your love of books!

LOOKING AHEAD TO NEXT WEEK:

Christy Award Finalists – Yes, it’s that time again. The Christy Award Finalists have been announced and we’re going to check them out by category every Monday. This week it’s Contemporary Fiction.

Hello October! Timely, since we have our lists handy after this week’s rush and lots of books to choose from. This giveaway is for October 2025 Christian Fiction releases. Only one title suggestion though, not the RCW three!

September Giveaway – Week Three

Drum roll, please…..it’s time for the final READER’S CHOICE WEEK of the year!!!! Can you believe it??????? For those of you who don’t know, RCW is when we look ahead to Christian Fiction books about to be released – in this case in the months of October, November or December 2025. The days are dedicated to specific genres and you can enter the title of a book you’re excited about (or books, actually, since you can enter up to three titles per genre day.) If your name is drawn, you win an IOU for that book, which will be preordered for you. There are more rules, so check them out in each post so you’re in the know. This is what the week is going to look like:

Last week we looked at Christmas books that got away from us. Now it’s time to look ahead to the new Christmas releases just about to come out. So, let’s get our thinking caps on and do a bit of online digging and share the festive novels we’re anticipating the most.

Historical Romance/Fiction – a full length story or novella or collection of novellas set in any time period before 1980. May cross genres such as YA, Suspense, Amish etc. and may include dual timelines.

Contemporary Romance/Fiction – a full length story or novella or collection of novellas set in any time period after 1980. May cross genres such as YA, Suspense, Amish etc. and may include dual timelines.

Mystery/Suspense Fiction – a full length story or novella or collection of novellas where mystery is an important part of the plot. The hero or heroine (or both) are often in peril (more so in suspense) Can set in any time period and cross genres such as Amish, dual timeline etc.

General Christian Fiction – a full length story or novella or collection of novellas. Any genre, including previous selections you made on other days this week as well as specific genres not covered yet such as Amish, Speculative, SciFi etc.

Goal Reviews – where we catch each other up on how we’re doing with our reading goals and suggest books that will help us achieve those goals.

September Giveaway – Week Two

Quick question before we get to the winners: Have you noticed your reviews disappearing on Good Reads? I keep stumbling across books I know I’ve read and positive I reviewed but GR says otherwise. Just noticed a Net Galley book review I posted recently wasn’t there and yet, when I checked my ‘feedback sent shelf,’ on NG there’s a GR reads link so obviously the review was up for a time. I’m so confused. And does this mean my number of books read is skewed now? Ack!

Okay, back to the business of the day:

Winners will be contacted if they left their email address, otherwise it’s up to the winner to contact me at kavluvstoread AT yahoo DOT ca (please note it’s ca as in Canada, not com.) September Giveaway – Week One

Before we get started on the giveaways we have some Blog Business to cover so, skip to the winners if you must, but then come back and take note of some changes coming up.

  1. Thanks to Perrianne for an update about Baker’s Book House online changes. For some reason I did not get the email announcement but maybe you all did. Just in case you’re in the dark like me, here’s the details: Their website is getting an upgrade which is supposed to provide a ‘smoother shopping experience’ (YAY!) Unfortunately the new interface won’t carry over previous account history (kind of a drag for me) so make sure you save any receipts you still need before September 10th. Preorders will now need to be prepaid at checkout (I like this change – easier for me since I do so many preorders after RCW.) On September 11 when you go to sign in (hopefully the glitch is fixed and all of us can actually sign in!) you’ll get an email with a verification code which you’ll need to enter. As far as I understand, that will only be a one time thing.
  2. Possible changes in giveaway options. Due to tariffs and the US de minimis exemption having been suspended as of August 29th, there’s a chance I won’t be able to continue mailing my gently read books to the states. Right now it’s still duty free for gifts under $100 but my post office has told me everything is still evolving. For now, I can still mail them but – oy – I have to fill out an online duty claim ticket for each item. They’ll no longer do it at the post office. It’s a new system and there were glitches and no one seemed to have any answers (might be just that my phone is too old to work with the app.) Anyway – I managed to mail last week’s wins this morning thanks to a postal worker taking pity on me and inputting my info into her phone in order to get the QR codes necessary, but I won’t be able to do that again. I’m going back to the post office on Monday when a techie guy is going to be there and he might be able to trouble shoot my old phone problem. Anyway, all this to say that it’s more important than ever to take note of what edition the giveaway is available in for your country. It’s always written in red under the Giveaway Opportunity title. Also, remember to make note of the + Giveaway after the blog book review title – that’s the indicator that there will be a giveaway. Also, due to the increasing cost of books including ebooks, there might be fewer giveaways some weeks.

Phew! Now that’s out of the way let’s get on to the super fun stuff!

We have a Best Reads Summer Book Bingo Winner! Woohoo! Thanks to everyone for making this such a success. I was worried there wouldn’t be much interest – who knew there were so many book nerdy kindred spirits out there?! I had so much fun seeing what books everybody was reading over the summer and added quite a few of your reads to my TBR – so thanks for sharing the book love!

We had 14 blackouts and oodles and oodles and oodles of bingos. My brain is still whirling after tallying everything up BUT we have a winner!

Congratulations to:

Bridget – who wins a $25 Baker Book House gift card (though I’m going to wait until September 11 to order it which is when their new and improved website is up and running.)

2025 Carol Award Finalists – (Debut) I can’t believe it’s that time already but the finalists were just announced this week and the winners in each category will be announced on September 6 at the ACFW Conference Gala. Soooo exciting. This year especially because 40% of the finalists are indie authors! And most of the rest are from small publishing houses. Tons of new-to-me authors listed and books I’ve never even heard of.

So, while all that is exciting, I’ve discovered it can be a little be tricky when it comes to sourcing all editions of the books. I’ve noticed that small press books seem to carry hefty price tags in print format for a while now, but some of these were crazy! One 300 page book is $80 in Canada! And a $10 US book is $32 in Canada while another book was $7 here and $40 in the US. All kinds of crazy — so, all this to say pay particular attention to the giveaway options for each Carol Award Finalists title in the coming weeks. They will be listed in bold after the title/author/publishing info statement and will be divided by US, Canada and International.
