While searching for her family’s missing Christmas ring, a military widow sparks a friendship with a handsome antiques dealer, who just might have the love and the lost heirloom she’s been longing for.
Vanessa Mayfield’s great-grandfather discovered a beautiful gold and ruby ring buried in the dirt at Normandy on D-Day. It gave him hope when all hope seemed lost and came to be known as The Christmas Ring as it was passed down through the generations of their family.
Years ago, though, Vanessa lost the ring shortly after becoming a military widow herself and has scoured antique stores ever since, hoping someone found it. After dropping her daughter Sadie off for college, the “Christmas in July” sale sign she sees passing through Marietta seems the perfect distraction before returning to her now-empty house. She doesn’t find the ring, but she does find something completely the co-owner of the store, Ben Miller, makes her smile in a way she hasn’t since losing her husband.
Their friendship blossoms throughout the fall, and as Christmas nears, it’s clear that something more is developing. Unbeknownst to either of them, Ben’s father, Howard, has purchased a box of antiques that happens to include Vanessa’s missing heirloom Christmas ring. A ring secretly worth five figures and filled with a lifetime of Vanessa’s memories. Ben’s father has no idea the importance of the heirloom–he just knows it is by far the most valuable piece he will have ever sold–and he’s making plans to sell it so he can finally travel the world. It is his Christmas diamond in the rough.
As Vanessa works to pull off her annual Columbus Cares Christmas Military Dance, she’s eager for Sadie to return home from college. But she hasn’t told Sadie about Ben. Every time she tries, something stops them. But with Ben in town to help with final preparations for the dance, she can no longer put it off.
When Ben learns the truth about his father’s newfound treasure, he fears it will become a wedge that drives them completely apart. Can he convince his father to stop the sale of Vanessa’s precious heirloom? Or this Christmas, will love become the actual diamond in the rough?
My Review:
Traditional holiday fare from a best-selling author. Not only does the plot develop like a movie, it actually is one. So, book, audio book and movie all released at the same time, which means it’s available to everyone no matter their personal storytelling preference.
I chose audio and really enjoyed Paige McKinney’s narration. She brought all the emotion and joy in Kingsbury’s story to vibrant life. Her performance enhanced my ‘reading’ enjoyment and made it hard to put the book down.
A missing family heirloom and a second chance romance are accentuated through rich characterization and a moving inspirational thread. Letting go of the past and finding courage to create a new future is such an important part of Vanessa and Ben’s story and I love the way the author delivered all the complex emotions honestly.
A heartwarming and hopeful holiday read.
My thanks to Thomas Nelson, Zondervan Fiction Audio and Net Galley for providing me with an audio copy of this book.

Thank you for your review on THE CHRISTMAS RING. It confirmed that I can’t wait for the opportunity to read this amazing story. Guess since we don’t have a movie theater close to us I hadn’t paid attention and didn’t realize it was also a movie.
Since I can’t read ebooks, I’ll pass on the giveaway this time. 🙂
Have a wonderful day!

It looks like it’s just in theatres right now but I bet it will be available online eventually. Something to look forward next year maybe? I’m with you on the whole ebook reading challenge. Happy Reading, Kay!

lol – I might be guilty of over doing the Christmas reading lately. I’m trying to curb the enthusiasm but it’s so hard because there are still so many Christmas books I want to read! Good luck, Tracey!

I’m probably overdoing it too, especially since I read them off and on all year long. There are so many available with my KU account, I just go from one to another, and on and on I go. It works better for me than the public library because so many Christian indie authors are on there. Can’t beat it for $11.99 a month. And that’s the end of my sales pitch, lol.
I am taking a mini break however, read Hearts in Circulation, reading The Royal Artisan right now. Next, I’ll read my review book Beyond the Clouds. Then back to Christmas I go!

Eeeep!!! ‘Read’ Hearts in Circulation as in past tense? KU does seem to be worth the monthly fee – especially for access to indie books.

Yes, started in the afternoon and read it straight through until I went to bed last night. A lot of laughs but a lot of serious things too. Loved how Hayley dealt with his family. Then I started thinking about all my little quirks and wondered if I have issues too, haha.
KU has been worth it for me, although I do go in and out of it. I’ve stayed in the last 3 months because I had so many things I wanted to read. Being the book nerd I am I kept track of my savings. In Sept. I read books totaling $139, in Oct they totaled $92, and Nov is on track for $84 at the moment, I had a few non-KU books to catch up on. I’m getting so spoiled I think twice before I buy a book for more than $10-$12.99, and even then, they have to be a tried-and-true author like Sarah Monzon.

I love Karen Kingsbury!! I think I’ve read almost all the Baxter family series and quite a few of her stand-alone books (The Chance and Two Weeks were my favorite). It literally takes me only 24hrs to read them because I can’t put them down! And, I usually cry more than once throughout it because they are so emotional.
I didn’t realize this was made into a movie as well! I’ll have to look for it 😊

It’s interesting that the movie and the book released at the same time. That doesn’t happen often. I started reading Christian Fiction way too late for the Baxter Family contuing saga. By the time I found out about them I was too overwhelmed bu the number of books I’d have to read to catch up. 🙂 Good luck, Trixi!

Your review puts the icing on the cake after I recently saw two related author interviews on television.

This book sounds soooo good! The story of the heirloom and the search for it after it goes missing is so intriguing. I wanted to see the movie, but missed seeing it before it left the theater. 🙁 I’m really looking forward to reading this book! Thank you for the chance to win an ebook copy of it!!
