My Review:

This slim little book packs a wallop and proves that Cindy Woodsmall can do concise without losing out on the depth and detail she is known for. Mattie is such a fun character — and very different from your typical Amish heroine. Love her dreaminess, her klutziness, the way she can turn disaster into something fun and light-hearted. Except for her broken engagement that is. She knows how to harbour a grudge and I honestly can’t blame her since she thinks one thing while the reality is far different.

I spent my time being alternately irritated and enamoured with Gideon. Honestly –he’s…he’s…just like a man!!!! Thinks like a man, acts like a man and believe me that isn’t always a good thing! So there’s fireworks at times, angst a plenty, but Woodsmall weaves it all together with some wonderfully heart-warming, light-hearted moments as well. A great combination for a Christmas read — though there’s not a lot of Christmas in the read. LOL. It’s not as seasonal as I thought it would be, but that didn’t detract from the story at all. In fact it makes it more universally appealing. Definitely not a book that has to be read only at Christmas.

    1. Yay for libraries. Mine is pretty good about carrying Amish fiction — in fact I was shocked to discover a whole display on Amish fiction when I went to the library this week.   3. Speaking of Christmas, we need snow before then but I’m still very much ok with our beautiful fall weather in my part of the world. It’s getting a touch colder over night which is perfect too. Some of the the trees are still hanging on to their leaves. What’s not to love about this time of year. Having said all this snow is in the forecast next week.

    I’d love to read this story Kav. Your review was intriguing, I’m wondering how it all turned out.

    1. We’re having a splendid fall too. Reports were saying we’d have muted colours because of the warmer night temperatures this season but no one told the trees and they are showing off even more than other years. Still lots of leaves on the trees though. And I love hearing the geese! Autumn is my favourite season. Good luck, Becky!

  5. Love this author’s books! How can you go wrong with this book. I mean it’s the Amish genre, a Christmas story (well sort of) AND a story of second chances (one of my favorite troupes)!
