  1. Here we are halfway through 2024 and its Reader’s Choice Week, Summer edition, yay!

Historical books always seem to be the easiest to find.

Thanks for the fun week and giveaways Kav. I’m looking forward to all the choices.

So many of the books on my TBR list are coming out in August!

              1. I know — where has the year gone?! And though it’s just officially summer, it’s felt like summer for months here. My garden is a riot of blooms right now — even the flowers that don’t usually bloom until July and even August. It’s gorgeous right now but I have no idea what it will look like later on in the summer. Luckily I have books to distract me from that dilemma! And all these great releases to anticipate. Eeeeppp!

Super excited about another Karen Barnett National Park book and it sounds fantastic! Good luck, Tracey!

              1. I have some serious catching up to do with Rachel Fordham’s books. I’m always hearing rave reviews about them. I plan to read The Letter Tree in July so I should just plan on reading Beyond Ivy Walls as soon as it comes out. I love a Beauty and the Beast type of story! Good luck, Lucy!

            2. Good morning, Kav, and YIPPEE to another Reader’s Choice Week! I don’t think we had much of a spring here. With temps into the high 90s, I can barely walk out to the mailbox. My poor little flowers. 😩

              1) A Matter of Honor by Laura Frantz (July 24)

                1. Awesome, Tracey!! I don’t have KU bc I get books from NetGalley. However, I’ve been buying way more ebooks lately bc it’s not a lot of fun reading an unedited book w/o the cover. Plus since surgery, seems I can’t get to them quickly enough on NG before they archive them. Maybe I need to invest in KU. 🤔

                2. I was hoping to make a library request for that but I think if it’s in KU that they can’t order it. They are very fussy about indie books anyway.

              1. I get some books from Netgalley too, but Kindle Unlimited has lots to choose from especially if you want to try a new-to-you author. You might want to go over to amazon and type in kindle unlimited, I saw on fb yesterday they had a 2 month deal for free! I got a deal in May to last through August.

              2. It’s getting hot again here. That’s why I’m late to hosting my own RC party — had to get steps in, weeds ousted, groceries bought and library books returned before it became unbearable to be outside. In front of my fan now and ready to swoon over all the new releases!

A Matter of Honor looks different from Laura Frantz’s other works. Shorter for one and I think it looks like it’s indie published? Maybe that’s why it’s available on Kindle Unlimited? I’ve been learning about KU — did you know that authors only get paid for pages read? I would have thought it would be an amount for every time a book was checked out, but nope, just by pages read. 😦 And if an author puts a book on KU they can’t list it anywhere else — no other online stores, no libraries, no brick and mortar stores. KU creates quite the monopoly which isn’t fun for readers like me. But it’s a great deal, Diane, to try it out for a couple of months for free. Think of all the books you could read!!!

                Good luck, Diane!

                1. How in the world do you manage all that? Methinks you’re either Superwoman or you get up at 3 am, one or the other! The heat just saps me. Laura’s is indie published & I think it’s novella length. Of course, her books from Revell will come out in Jan per usual. I get kindle rewards points every time I buy an ebook & when they add up to a certain amount I get a free book. I’m reading at a normal pace right now, but I think you have to be a really voracious reader to take advantage of KU. IDK 🤷

                2. Up at 5:30 out the door for my first walk at 6:30 when it’s coolest. 🙂 And the lure of a library visit isn’t a chore but I tack on errands like grocery shopping since they are in the same area. The heat zaps me as well which is why I need to get moving earlier than later. I’m a slug right now. lol

That’s neat that Laura Frantz is releasing an indie book and a traditionally pubbed book — that means we’ll get two books a year instead of one…if she makes a habit of the indie thing. 🙂

                3. It’s supposed to be 100° tomorrow! So really not sure what temps will be at the time you get up to walk. 😩 My leg with the nerve issues is screaming at this heat! I haven’t walked in neighborhood for a week, so doing more housework. I’d rather be like you & go to the library & grocery store, but can’t drive yet & no bus service where I live.

Laura has another indie published book coming up after this, not sure about the future.

                1. Switcheroo accomplished — though both look highly tempting to me. Emotionally gritty dual timeline by Carrie Turansky or a BRAND NEW Michelle Griep series (EEEEEPPPPP!!!!)? Decisions, decisions. Good luck, Diane!

              1. This one does sound good and I’ve been hearing so much praise for her stories online — The Letter Tree in particular. I’m going to read that one in July with a Hoopla audio credit. Eeeepp. Just a week away. Good luck, Diane!

              1. For future Reader’s Choice giveaways in the next two weeks, could you please list each title in a separate comment? You only need to put your contact info in one of them. It makes it easier for me to do the final tally at the end and ensures I don’t miss any entries. (it’s my rule #4) 🙂 Thanks! Good luck, Mark!

              1. I know — when you think about it, this is the third quarter of the year! Ack! I follow a book tuber who loves Shanna Hatfield and I’ve been meaning to read more of her books — I’ve only read one Christmas story, I believe. Molly sounds like a good one to try — interesting premise and a WWI setting in France! Good luck, Lori!

              1. Bwahahaha! No worries, Perriane, I was already on the ditzy side of quirky so a bit of crazy won’t make much of a difference. 🙂 Ooohhh and you found another Christmas one and it has a gorgeous cover! Plus it’s a Nutcracker inspired story. Eeeeeppp! Good luck!
