Lydia Wooding is fascinated by the latest inventions the new century brings, including motorcars. She longs for the independence they represent and believes that women should have a say in the future of the industry—just as they should have a say in suffrage, adventure, and, of course, love.
Spencer Hayes is a man of practicality and innovation, but he lacks the financial backing to make his dream a reality. When he contacts his childhood friend, Andrew Wooding, about a promising business venture, he is invited to Briarwall Manor to discuss the terms. Once there, he is surprised to find that Andrew’s once shy, younger sister, Lydia, has grown into a young woman of beauty, wit, and a bit of fire. Even better, the two share a passion for motorcars.
Andrew, however, is wary of cars, having lost his parents in a tragic auto accident when he and Lydia were young. And he’s not sure a relationship between his sister and Spencer is the best idea—not when Sir Lawrence is available and could match both Lydia’s social status and her fortune.
Torn between risking their hearts and being loyal to their dreams in an era of whirlwind change, Spencer and Lydia anchor themselves with the determination they both share: to live life to its fullest.
My Review:
Fun and flirty and banter-ful!
Jensen utilizes the innovations at the turn of the century to intriguing perfection in this historical romance. Such an enthralling time in history! New inventions, new ideas and a changing society are opening up new possibilities for women…despite what stuffy older brothers might think. 🙂
A classic love story delivered with wit and charm. The friends to more trope is executed well, especially when a meddling older brother keeps messing things up. A clean, light romance that was a joy to read…well listen to. And performed by one of my all time favourite narrators — Justine Eyre!
*currently available on Audible Plus (in Canada, anyway)
This sounds like a fun story. I read my first Jensen book at Christmas 3 years ago, Miracle Creek Christmas. I won that from you Kav and loved it! That was a contemporary though, so I’d love to read this historical and see it’s as good as the first one.
Thanks for the giveaway and happy reading weekend to all 🙂 tracey14567 at gmail dot com

Oooh, I need to put Miracle Creek Christmas on my reread list for this Christmas, (It’s never too early to start a Christmas reading list, right?!) I checked and it looks like Krista Jensen has only written these two books as far as I can tell. One contemporary, one historical. Both excellent. Hope she writes more.
Oopsie — this is just a review, not a giveaway this time round. Though, since I found it on Audible Plus, you might find it in KU — they often coincide that way. Happy Reading, Tracey!

Thank you for your review on “Hearts of Briarwall”. Gorgeous cover that would definitely draw my attention. I’ve added it to my TBR list and think it would be a wonderfully fun read.

Nothing like plumping up our TBR lists, right? We wouldn’t want to risk them thinning down to nothing! 🙂 Happy Reading, Kay!

Isn’t she amazing? I think Justine Eyre is my favourite historical narrator and Therese Plummer is my favourite contemporary narrator. But there are so many wonderfully performers reading our fave books. Our temps are supposed to rise again and hopefully that means the dumping of snow we got over the past two days will melt away and stay away! So, yes, it will be a great weekend. Happy Reading, Cindy!

Very old-fashioned cover — looks like an image for an old timey fashion catalogue. Glad to make the introduction to a new-to-you author. Happy Reading, Caryl!

Oooh, is it A Hopeful Christmas with Anneka R. Walker and Sian Ann Bessey? That’s a great collection. I see there’s one other novella collection featuring love letters. I just need to read that book and I’ll be all caught up with Krsita Jensen.
