Three Little Matchmakers + Giveaway

1817, Staffordshire, England

Caroline Dempsey, a loving governess, and Henry Graves, an impassive earl, fall prey to the matchmaking machinations of three newly orphaned children who determine to forge a new family for themselves, no matter the havoc their plans cause.

My Review:

Of Note: originally appeared in the 2017 Regency Bride Collection published by Barbour.

So much fun! This is on the short side for a novella but it is oh, so sweet! Lovely characters who come alive — from the innocently conniving children to the austere Earl and devoted governess. So — eeeepp — grumpy/sunshine trope in full swing at the start of this story.

Caroline and Henry have a history right back to childhood (when one might have harboured a secret crush on the other) but time and personal difficulties have kept them apart and make them strangers when they meet up once again in order to create a stable home for Henry’s orphaned nieces and nephew.

And, oh my, these children! Imaginatively enthusiastic in their pursuit of a happily ever after for them all. Spurred on, no less, by the wild tales of Henry and Caroline’s misspent youth! Our hero and heroine don’t stand a chance…thankfully.

Heartwarming and funny with some serious undertones too.

  1. This one sounded so familiar to me, so I looked it up. Sure enough, I had read this back in 2017 when it was a part of The Regency Brides Collection. I have read a lot of the collections by Barbour, they have the prettiest deckle edge on them. I love that after a time when the books fall out of publication the authors are able to get their book rights back and republish them giving them a totally new audience.

    Happy reading Wednesday!

    1. Oh, thanks for that inside scoop, Tracey. I thought it was a new release — and it kinda is, I guess. I’ve added a note to my review to make that clear. I have some of those Barbour collections as well. Love the deckle edges! I think it’s great when authors get their rights back to their stories, but I prefer it when they make a note of the previous publication date. A lot of Love Inspired authors are republishing older works too. Irene Hannon is great about making it known that these new stories were published previously. She calls them her Encore edition which I think is a nifty way to let readers know they might have the books in their collection already.

      1. Just in from errands, whew!

I looked up the ebook form of Three Little Matchmakers and it does say inside that it’s previously published as…but I agree this should be in the summary before a reader buys it to avoid confusion.

I see a lot of authors republishing books, but if they are usually traditional published then do an indie I always try to check if it has been out a while. Not always easy to keep up but that’s the goal. You are right about Irene Hannon making it clear when her work is an encore edition. Revell even has 2 new covers on her Heroes of Quantico ebooks, so unless a reader has a good memory they could get mixed up. Fortunately, amazon also does a good job letting a buyer know if they own it already but if you bought somewhere else that doesn’t work.

      2. I’m just in from errands too — library run (of course!) and groceries. So, I just checked the print copy I have and it does say the original print date but in fine print beneath the 2024 copyright date, so my bad. But I had no clue. I saw it on instagram and thought ‘cool, new book from an author I haven’t read in a while’ and hopped over to Amazon. 🙂

  2. One just knows this is going to be an adorable read just by looking at the cute cover. Your review confirms that suspicion too.

Thank you for the chance to win a copy of “Three Little Matchmakers”. I’d love to read it!
