A hidden identity exposed…and murderers on the hunt…
Rachel Bright’s time hiding in a small town comes to a crashing halt when her witness protection location is compromised. Now to evade her serial killer ex-husband after his surprise release from prison, she must go on the run with US marshal Kyle Reid. But with a bounty on her head and determined contract killers on her tail, every move could be their last.
My Review:
Equal parts intense and emotional with enough hair-raising to…well, make your hair stand up on end. 🙂 Some beautiful descriptive passages as well, along with multi-faceted characters that keep a reader on edge with every new revelation.
I particularly appreciated the way the author included fascinating bits of Emergency Medicine (the author is an ER nurse) and the intricacies of the WITSEC programme. It all added an extra dimension to this romantic suspense.
And I love our take-charge heroine! Rachel has been through a horrific ordeal that’s necessitated going into hiding. She’s reinvented herself, from the inside out, leaving her victim persona behind. If only the past would stay in the past! Her resiliency, the way she leans on the Lord and her courage in the face of adversity are all admirable traits that I found so appealing. And so does Kyle. Only there’s all kinds of complications — like keeping the witness alive!
A plot full of twists and turns that kept me engaged up to the very last page.

Your spelling of the word “programme” makes me smile. I don’t know if anyone else would notice it, but I know I vacillate between using the British (“programme”) and American (“program”) spelling of that word.
I’d be curious to read he ER stuff that the author throws in!!! Incidentally, I was working in the ER at the hospital today.

Interesting that you noticed that. Usually people think I spelled the word wrong but I’m Canadian and we adhere to the British spelling up here. 🙂
It makes such a difference when an author has hands on knowledge of a profession — especially when it comes to medical stuff. It’s not that the story is inundated with details, but there’s just a sense of rightness about what is shared….if that makes any sense. Good luck, Courtney! Working in an ER has to make for a challenging shift.

Are you familiar with the IB programme? It’s the reason why I know/recognize lots of the British spellings.
It definitely makes a HUGE difference. Totally agree with what you said!!! Honestly, the challenging part about my shift in the ER yesterday was the boredom. It was a SLOW day!!!

Her first three books were super creepy…I read all but the third one. Very much psychological suspense. Kinda like Nancy Mehl is now, but her LIS are great reads, edgy even, but not that edgy. Perfect for scaredy cats like me. Good luck, Diane!

As you know I like edgy so I may try her earlier books. There’s only one book by a VERY popular suspense author, I quit reading after about 3-4 chapters. I couldn’t “unsee” the things I was reading that early on in the book. DNF!

Between that awesome cover and your review, I know without a doubt that this book is a must read and one that I’m going to not only enjoy, but read in one sitting.
Doesn’t that cover grab your eye! But oh my to see that beautiful home burn makes me sad and then mad when I see the gas can.
Love a story that you know is accurate between the author’s experiences and research to make it so realistic. This story sounds like it takes you on the scariest roller coaster ride with the danger making you flinch and want to duck to take cover. My kind of reading!
Thank you for the chance to win a copy!
